And Marvel continues to movie-fy their characters...

I really liked Yondu in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (Michael Rooker steals the show as usual). But for all intents and purposes he was a pretty different character from the comics.

And now with the upcoming Star-Lord #2...

Yep, looks like MCU Yondu is now in the comics. They also seem to be lifting the father figure/Ravagers leader angle from the film as well.

Not something I'm losing sleep over but it's one of those things where you just have to shake your head at how transparent Marvel has become in making their comics movie tie-ins.

I don't think this is a big loss. It's not like Yondu was a particularly deep character in the first place, right?

Plus, if they ever want to undo it or "fix" it, they could easily just explain that the original Yondu, in the future, is an ancestor with the same name.

I believe you mean "descendant".

I always wondered if the great ZeeBee should sit down for a drink with Rory Williams one day and compare notes on avoiding certain death and experience of time-travel intercourse. Not to mention technique.

Given that the Yondus exist a thousand years apart, that's plenty of time to establish that the original future Yondu is indeed many generations separated from the cinematic-influenced one.

I'm not sure how they'd explain the head-crest/fin... how often have we seen members of his species in the present to know if they have full-on fins or not? I guess they can either go with the "things change over time" or "different sub-species" like with the Klingon discrepancy.

As changes made to get closer with the movies go, this one bothers me less than many. If it helps draw the movie-watching audience into the comics at all, it means sales improve and Marvel is willing to take chances. :)

They have fins in the present too. Could be his got amputated? Or it's just a cyber fashion statement.

The fin was just compressed hair follicales and implied to have some significant cultural import in matters of mating.(Talon asked about it in one issue of Guardians and Yondu said it wasn't appropriate to talk about) Since the 20th century Yondu has pretty much abandoned his culture to be a space pirate I don't see what's so weird about him cutting it so short.

Well heck, Yondu might just be his race's version of "John" or "Joe." Common name, even in the far-flung future.
