Yes, because what the Alien franchise needed was an even more gory version of "death by chest-burster" (Which I think is still won by AVP2 which has a couple of horrorific takes on (The kid and his dad near the start and the scene in the maternity ward which I refuse to even acknowledge is a thing that happened)
At least here it seems more tasteful. Compared to *ahem* those films, these seem to at least be a bit more dramatic and actually paced well. This is especially true with the second film. I can actually forgive the maternity ward on the grounds of it being a new and novel way to explain a potential outbreak... But the first burstings were absolutely tasteless. I had half a mind to leave the theater when I saw that.
And yes, I do admit to seeing the second one in the theaters.
