Ganke is Peter's roommate in 'Spidey'

So as you may recall the character Ned in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' was pretty familiar to a certain Ganke Lee from Miles Morales' title, a chubby Asian kid (although Ned's actor Jacob Batalon is of Filipino descent, Ganke is Korean-American) who plays with LEGOs and is Peter's friend and confidante. Bendis himself even poked fun at it by having Ganke call himself 'Ned' as a way to cover his identity.

Well, over in the 'Spidey' title...





This obviously is not a canon title and Ganke is still Miles' best friend in the main universe but it is kind of funny how Marvel's been using the character as Peter's friend elsewhere...

You know? I am not THAT opposed to that idea. do you know what I find annoying? For years people TOLD me that it HAD to be Peter because Miles was "boring" and had "nothing special", that Peter had "more rich stories" and all that crap.
And yet writers seem to preffer to take inspiration from Miles (supposedly) boring books rather than using peter's so-called rich mythos.

I'd actually say Ganke's a more interesting character in terms of personality than Miles was. So were Miles' uncle and dad. By himself Miles is just kind of there.

This is high-school peter. the most boring Peter Parker you could have. So him being kind of there is clearly not the issue.

And you are missing my point: Where are all those rich characters Peter fanboys were babbling about all day? why, for a character that is supposedly SO boring, writers seem to want to use as much of him as humanly possible?

The Bendis/Bagley USM run alone is probably one of the best takes on the character period.

What are you talking about? There are tons of great Spider-Man characters. The MCU just isn't utilizing them.

They borrowed Ganke probably because the idea of giving Peter a peer who knows who he is is a good storytelling device. They haven't taken much else.

The previous movies have proven it unecessary and they easily could have used Harry Osborn or a similar character. It takes away Peter's uniqueness, all for the sake of giving him a guy on a computer, even though A. there's already Karen, already considerable departure, B. superhero's guy on a computer is so cliched the movie even makes fun of how cliched it is. And by the end, basically everyone in his supporting cast knows his identity except Flash (even Michelle is implied), so why even bother?

And they've absolutely taken more than that, with his hero worship of an older superhero mentor and going to a charter school.

They could have and maybe they should. The Ned character was going to be white and theney were accused of whitewashing Ganke so they ended up making him Asian.

Saying the hero worship of Iron Man was based off Miles’ “why didn’t I save Peter” is a huge stretch. Even in USM Peter was already looking up to the Avengers.

The obvious sollution is then not making him freaking Ganke.

Miles hasn't been angsting over not saving Peter for a long time.

Miles has one really prominent, interesting character trait: he's almost ludicrously anxious and high-strung. I hope it doesn't go away when he's no longer written by Bendis.

Lord knows Ganke's a more interesting character than Harry Osborn or Flash Thompson ever were, and more believable as a friend to Peter.

As I've posted, Flash was friends with Harry and Gwen, and Gwen and Harry became friends with Peter. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #39 even has Gwen somehow forcing Flash to be nicer to Peter.

Neither Harry nor Flash never really clicked as Peter's *best* friend. Friends, sure, but even in alternate settings where Harry is supposed to start as Peter's bestie, they never seem to have the comfort level with each other you'd expect from people close to each other.

Writers always seem more interested in how Harry and Peter are destined to have a falling out. In most *bestie* scenarios, they've been close since childhood, but they don't have any common ground to speak of.

If he had to be forced, then Flash isn't really a friend to Peter, is he?

IIRC they started reconciling again as adults mainly because Peter needed a new place to stay after Aunt May moved in with Mrs. Watson, right?
