Action Comics #1004

Bendis: More importantly, I'm most excited for people to see, out of all the books that are shipping, is Action Comics #1004. It's the Lois and Clark issue, it's the issue where we find out what Lois has been up to since "Man of Steel". Why she leaves? What's going on with the relationship? A lot of people are terrified of what that reveal will be, usually you assume the worst would happen even though I write nothing but romance comics, most of the time. Still people worry. But you're gonna see what Lois and Clark mean to each other now and what their relationship means. My first step in proving to the world, that Lois Lane is the best character in all of comics. The issue is by Ryan Sook, who is one of my favorite artists, it's very emotional and I'm really excited for people to see it. - Source

I am just astounded at how Bendis, of all people, manages to nail the Clark/Lois marriage better than so many past writers.

Not me, honestly. I assumed he would approach Lois as a sort of much, much, much, much more functional Jessica Jones. and Jessica's relationship with Luke Cage is probably some of his best writing.

Honestly, my one big concern is, and has always been, Jon, but I was among the few who never feared for Lois under bendis pen.

Oh I know he is in space, I just worry what "hit puberty" may mean. I also worry because half the fun of Jon was him slowly discovering his powers with the help of his parents.

I'm astounded people think this, to be honest? Because I do think that quote is correct - he shoehorns romance plots in his comics a lot. Rom-com banter is like his main forte. I find it the least surprising thing of all that he would write Lois and Clark this way. It's right up his alley.

Remember back when the first issue came out and people was damning Bendis they were absolutely convinced he was going to do some 'Superman being temped by that female firefighter' plot because what kind of true fan doesn't immediately jump to worst case scenario conclusions, right?

Well, to be fair: Bendis -does- have a reputation for spectacularly bad ideas.

This, however, is nice.

I always thought his style could never work for DC but his Superman is just terrific.

Thankfully, he's also toned down his usual bit of having guys constantly repeating themselves and stammering. That doesn't work as well for Superman as it does for Marvel guys and glad Bendis understands that.

I haven't been a fan of his A-plots/superheroic stuff (stop trying to make fetchRogol Zaar happen!), but he is getting the Superman-interacts-with-civilians-and-local-authorities aspect just right.

That too. And Jon being in spaceship is probably Why Super Sons ended. I really loved that book and the friendship between Jon and Damian.

Yeah, i'm really enjoying that one too. I just hope Damian and Jon will still team up when he returns.
