Komi-san wa Komyushou desu

Tadano Hitohito is a new student at the prestigious Itan Private High School, and he has decided to live by a simple philosophy: always read the situation and have a calm and peaceful school year (which TOTALLY has nothing to do with the fact that he was an edgelord in middle school and desperately wants to put that behind him). While putting things in his new locker, he greets the drop-dead gorgeous person with the locker next to his.

It soon becomes time for the students to introduce themselves to the class. Komi is called on.

Tadano asks if Komi has trouble speaking with others. At first he tries to take it back since it seems impossible for the school idol, but her inability to deny it confirms that it's true. Tadano asks if she can at least write on the blackboard like she did during her introduction.

Tadano asks Komi through writing what her dream is. She writes that it's to make 100 friends. Since she's self-conscious of it, he writes that he's her first friend and that he'll help her make 99 more. While he quickly becomes embarrassed by it, she responds by writing, "Thank you. Please take care of me." She ends up blushing furiously and runs off.

Okay, Komi is the kind of person for whom Texting would actually be a good way to communicate.

I love a good, adorable, schmaltzy love story. Are there any other issues or volumes?

I want to hug her so much, but it would only make it worse for the poor dear.

I don't like how girls are presented in boy's manga in general, but I respect that his reaction was to help her make other friends.

In real life it would probably be better to focus on coping skills and self-acceptance rather than an outright cure, but empathy is a good start.
