Superman: Up in the Sky, Parts 3-4

The Champion prepares to destroy the planet. And the Thing rises from the mat, his face full of blood and pain. And he says, “Ya’ll never beat me! I’m just too stupid…and ugly…ta know when to quit.” In my CIA days, I took this comic with me every time I went to some odd, maybe dangerous place. When I was scared, I’d read it. Too stupid and ugly to know when to quit. Exactly. -- Tom King

Part 3 - "Fight!!!"

Part 4 - "Alone"

The crew of an alien starship stumble upon Superman's unconscious body floating through space...

You can’t help but think about the Rocky themed song. While looking at the boxing scans.

Superman in the boxing ring reminds me of the episode of DS9 where Worf and a bunch of others are captured by the Dominion and Worf is being used to train Jem'Hadar in hand to hand combat (i.e. a punching bag) and the squad commander tells his boss, towards the end of the episode, "I can not defeat this Klingon, I can only kill him"

Agreed.

This is how Superman should be written; understanding his powers make him Superman, but his ethos and personality are what make him a hero. Superman is a hero because he chooses to use his powers for good and selflessly, because he doesn't understand why you would choose to do otherwise. That is what make him inspiring, what makes him likable.
