Sonic the Hedgehog #1 — "Fallout, part 1"

Following the events of Sonic Forces, Eggman has gone missing and Sonic spends his newfound freedom mopping up what’s left of the former’s Empire, loosening his iron grip on the world bit by bit.























And so Sonic runs off into the horizon once more. Unbeknownst to him, however, a lone Egg Flapper drone was watching the whole thing and streaming the footage to a mysterious unseen figure in Eggman’s control room, who intends to leak word of Sonic’s exploits here so they can lure out a certain other Sonic-obsessed individual...

In the Sonic comics, is Dr. Robotnik the same as Eggman, or are they completely different characters? Is Robotnik even in this series?

Eggman and Robotnik are indeed one and the same.

The IDW run adheres closely to the games’ canon, so Eggman and Robotnik are indeed one and the same.

I really wish they just called him Robotnik. Eggman is an atrocious name.

I don't mind Eggman too much but I do think Robotnik sounds more villainous

He was always Eggman in Japan since day one, if memory serves correct they changed his name overseas because they were afraid of getting sued by The Beatles.

This isn’t a universal thing, but I find which name one grew up with tends to affect which name one prefers. My first Sonics were Adventure and Rush, so he’ll always be Eggman to me.

I've always happily accepted that Robotnik is his family name, and Eggman is Sonic's mocking nickname/taunt that he decided to own.
