Court Date
Been busy lately with work (you graduate, and suddenly you're expected to have a job), so I haven't done this in a while; but, four scans from Captain America #611.
The National Security Council and the President basically accept Steve's version of events, but the public is a different consideration (particularly because of the Philadelphia bombing):

Not til after the midterms, Steve.
Steve goes to talk with Bucky, who's spent the evening breaking up another neo-Nazi gathering (with papers promoting that "The Master is Coming").

So the trial is on.

Obviously the real answer is "Kirby served in Europe and that's why."

Point conceded as to the real reason.

Because execution without a trial okay on the public if those responsible are both Nazis and vampires or something.
But, eh, they're vampire Nazis, that means they're most definately evil.
Wow, it really seems like being being sarcastic in favour of either Nazis or vampires. XP

In factHitler appointed a successor and said successor surrendered. So that's the end of that.

"You're the President. You can do anything that you want to. So do what I tell you to do. Because you can't tell me what to do."
Umm....huh.
I am not a Brubaker fan.

spinning in his gravecausing thousands of copies of Squadron Supreme to flutter weakly in outrage?Cap might refuse an order. He would never be rude. Especially not with a president who was trying to work with him.

And since I'm reading this on the day of the rally, I'm picturing a Bucky appearance on the Mall.

"Well, this new Captain America *seems* all right, and yet..."
"Steve vouched for him."
"Okay, new Cap then."
Plus, Bucky has to use the unpopular "I was only following orders" defense. In his case, it's valid. But people aren't going to like it and may not fully believe it.

I mean, since when does the press have only one version of a story? You'd think FOX would be singing Bucky's praises if everyone else hated him. (Which isn't good either, but shows what I mean about two sides.)

Still, he isn't really naive about how news and the media has changed over the decades. That first Nomad story is a good example in CAPTAIN AMERICA #183.
