10th Anniversary Celebration: A Tale of Three Harpies
My other favorite old Fred Perry's Gold Digger post!
Below are scans from possibly my favorite one-issue Gold Digger story, GD59, focusing on Charlie the Harpy... and Charlie the Harpy, and Charlie the Harpy :)
We start with our intrepid young harpy, Charlotte, a young teenager in most respects, being lead astray by one of Brianna's AI bots, Peebri.
It turns out messing with wormholes isn't always such a smart idea, and something comes out that isn't human!
What? Harpies aren't human ^^ Though considering Charlotte's a unique bio-engineered organism, they don't know what to make of this mean-looking and ripped new arrival on a motocycle. Nor when another more scholarly looking one comes out.
Penny, Charlie's adopted mother/guardian/mentor comes in, and Charlie does the only logical thing for a teenager to do. Hide the evidence!
Ok, that doesn't work at all, and the two newcomers leap on Penny.
Well, that wasn't expected.
The three of them sit down and explain their stories.
... and never be a coward again.
Prof C's is similar, only she never noticed the Saurian was evil in the first place and survived only due to luck and the intervention of one of Penny's rivals, who took her in.
Both tried going back to Civ Alpha to find the Saurian who killed their friends, for revenge, but neither could ever find it.
Their chit-chat is interrupted, however, when an alert goes off. The wormhole was still active and two more things have come through: A PAIR of Saurians.
The operative phrase here is 'took a level in badass'.
"For Penny... MY Penny..."
"Professor C and Charles are both so strong... and one day, I could be that strong too."
The Saurians are defeated, and the pair leave for their homes after some parting words of encouragement to Charlie, plus a recommendation not to marry the ninja from Prof C, "the divorce'll be a nightmare" ;)
