Two pages from Marvel Adventures: Spider-man #56

A good chunk of this issue is basically just one long conversation (with some fighting Cloak & Dagger interspersed) so I just thought I'd post two random pages.

So, Chat invited Peter for a a picnic on her roof (Where she has a garden, it's Emma's fault) they getinterrupted by Captain Stacy who needs Peter to track down Cloak and Dagger to figure out what they are up to.

Turns out C&D were looking for Chat, who is apparently a Runaway they thought was being forcibly recruited for some gang. She wasn't though, so she beats them over the head with a rolling pin.


I love that look on Peter's mask at the end. He's like "Whaaat?"

I haven't read X-Men in years, and I was never really a regular follower of Generation X, but...I like Emma and Banshee. They always seemed to, at the very least, have a fun chemistry. Normally I go for the eccentric genius boyfriend and long-suffering, eye-rolling girlfriend (Reed & Sue for example), but Emma and Sean seemed to do that just as well, and even balanced out the eccentric/long-suffering parts. I can't honestly say I miss them as a pair, but seeing those first two panels brings a smile to my face none the less.

Emma and Sean never really worked for me because Sean was supposed to still be in a mutually happy relationship with Moira McTaggart, plus they seemed keen on drawing him young, when he was actually old enough to have a daughter in her late tees, without any convenient time twisting or temporal jumps.

He doesen't know that she knows, but she knows that he doesen't know that she knows, she was considering telling him but decided against it.

Chat's being refreshingly accommodating about the whole thing. She drops the hint that she knows his secret, without forcing a confrontation about it. She's left him enough space that he can broach the subject (or not) at a time of his choosing. Pretty cool.

On the other hand, she did the entire "MY BOYFRIEND" thing, I'm not certain Peter would agree with that classification.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news spidey but there isn't going to be any pies because Lex Luthor jumped into your universe and stole them all.

That second page is pretty interesting, really. She's basically saying 'I know who you really are, but I also know that you want to keep that secret, so here's a convenient excuse for doing that which you don't really have to use, but you can if you want to. Plus, pie!'
Also, those last two panels are classic. He's like 'O-kee-dokee.'

Hmmm... I wonder if this pairing will stick. I had such high hopes for Peter/Kitty back in the Ulti-verse. For once I wanna see an alternate universe Peter that does not end up with either MJ or Gwen.

Plus Chat has Emma Frost for a best friend. Though if he ever crosses Sophia, I'd like to see what happens to Spidey whenever he hears the words parsley, intractable, or longitude.

It's Marvel Adventures, so "not sticking" is kind of the point. They're not supposed to be continuity-laden.

But yes, agree with you on both points. I even liked the What If? where he ended up with Silver Sable.
