I am the Lady Sif

Greetings True Believers!

I have another post of how awesome the Thor crew is. This one is about Thor's Asgardian love and one of the finest warriors in the Nine Worlds, the Lady Sif!

Midgard women sometimes get their groove back by beginning unconventional relationships, traveling to other countries or by signing up for a pilates class. How does an Asgardian woman do it? By slicing and dicing space pirate scum. Enjoy!

Sif is laying low in a Broxton hotel, feeling fucked up since she just got free from the control of Loki. Who had been using her body as a catspaw in his schemes.

She's feeling lousy and vulnerable because she defines herself as a warrior but Loki is a foe she's never been able to vanquish. She's boozing it up at a Broxton bar when everyone's favorite space horse with the power of Thor comes looking for his oath-brother.

It's awkard because Bill and Sif had a thing back in the day.

It seems like Bill's sentient starship (Skuttlebutt) has been taken over by pirates who are infected with a bio-mechanical virus. Since Skuttlebutt's purpose is to protect Korbinite life, it ejects him and Ti and won't allow them back in. They need a non-Korbinite warrior to clean house. Thor isn't around but Sif steps up.

They book back to the ship and Sif prepares to do battle.

BTW, I love Sif's armor in this one-shot.

The infected space-dudes rush her and battle begins.

Sif battles through to the main chamber and confronts the alien leader who gives her the bullshit "we can all be one in the virus" kinda-borg speech. He infects her despite her Asgardian toughness.

And that's how a true bad-ass does it.

I quite like her armour, but given flesh contact is a bad idea (And Bill knew this in advance), wouldn't she wear something over her exposed skin (Thor wears all over armour most of the time given the type of battles he fights)

The one on the cover however... Oy! Talk about pandering to the fanboy.

Agreed, whoever did that cover should probably be slapped. *lol*

Not a bad issue tho.

I'm guessing they didn't have time to get her a full-covering armor and just grabbed the best she had available.

Korbinites are definitely....cuter looking than I remember.

Not completely sold on the art (limited cohesion with the writing, maybe?) but I dig that last page's narration.

SIF! ♥ Awesome.

I finally hit the Walt Simonson era in my attempt to read ALL OF THOR EVER, and I am now approximately 1000x more fond of Sif than I was before. This makes me really happy.

Also, I love how the people of Broxton are totally unphased by the six foot tall shouting alien monster that just busted into the bar looking for Thor.

Yup. I wouldn't touch this story with a ten-foot pole based on a glance at that festering piece of... cheese.

Now, see, THIS would be a PERFECT direction to go in for a Diana costume change. Red and white are already in her scheme, and they look good together.

Wasn't it a couple of entries ago where someone said that Bill had to take something to get that 'horsey look'?

Or not .... I need coffee ....

The original Simonson origin said that:

"I alone was chosen by our leaders to be the guardian of the exodus...and so I was...changed to suit my task. Our scientists took the most ferocious carnivore of our empire and bio-engineered it to produce a warrior of surpassing skill and strength. When all was made ready, my soul was fitted to the body and I became the protector of my people."

When Bill's Korbinite form was revealed a couple of issues later, it didn't look too different from the one above, with the exception of little differences in art style.

What cool armor. And those lines on the last page are just awesomely badass. :D

I lol'd at the trucker guy's "Awk-ward." And Sif looks fierce on that last page. As for the cover, I'm pretending she just rushed out of bed to fight trolls and didn't have time to put some pants on.

Yeah, the cover was a bit too "Play now, my Lord" for my taste. And yes, full-on armor would have been more logical, but the outfit does have a nice Diana-ish flair to it.

Bows... Though this, and a comment on the Doctor Occult thread now have me imagining Billy Batson mispronouncing his magic word and ending up as SHE-ZAM, the Big Red Cheesecake...

I can just imagine Sif thinking "Lady, I'm from Asgard. Peace isn't what I do."

Okay, something's been bothering me about all this, and I finally figured out what it was.

Since when does Bill have human teeth?

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-12-19 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's probably Bill's fault, really. He only said 'by the way, flesh contact is bad, mm-kay?' when she was already IN the ship, with her standard armor already on. Had he given her prior warning, she doubtless would have worn something a little more covering.

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-12-19 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think he DOES have human teeth. He just has teeth-teeth, which he's always had.
nezchan: Toony version of me, more or less (Default)

[personal profile] nezchan 2010-12-19 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...he has molars here. And the teeth extend back like human teeth, at least when he has his mouth open wide.

I just checked, and Walt Simonson only gave him incisors along the front.

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-12-19 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrrm. Well, maybe the spell Odin cast on his hammer to allow him to switch between super and 'human' forms have caused the former form to subtly mutate over the years to be more 'human'?

Am i the only one nostalgic for the John Buscema silver, no-flesh body armour? I thought it looked majestic and bad-ass. As where her Buscema cheekbones.
