The Kingpin's family drama!

I'll be posting the three-part story about the Kingpin's conflict with Schemer, which is notable for introducing Vanessa and Richard Fisk, the Kingpin's family.

The story begins in Amazing Spider-Man #83.

After Spidey defeats the criminals and they run away...

In #84, Spidey sees in the Daily Bugle that there's a five-thousand dollar reward for the Schemer's capture.

Later...

The story concludes in #85.

Spider-Man manages to find and capture the Schemer, and takes him to the address given for the reward, only to find out it's a trap.

Kingpin drops a  steel-cable net from the ceiling, capturing Spider-Man.

I don't know what's sillier, Fisk sitting there in complete shock, or Spidey getting jobbed for the plot's sake. "Oh noes, he's pulling the rug away! If only I had some alternative to standing on the floor!"

To be fair, the rug pull seems to be Fisk's signature move. Its how he took out Captain America in that fight posted a while ago.

To be double fair, his Spider-Sense really should have seen that coming.

Richard Fisk really had a thing for masks, didn't he?

Yeah, this is like what, the second time he masqueraded as a new crime lord to try and usurp his father and get revenge. Wasn't he also The Rose? And I think he had another persona as well.

Wasn't it a Fisk who ran the Secret Empire for a while?

Blood Rose, yes. He also had others masquerade as himself, as both Rose and Richard. You might think the guy had some identity issues.

Did they actually give the Kingpin's full name in this story? I *think* Frank Miller's Daredevil run was when we found out his real name was Wilson Fisk.

These issues were in 1970, and from what I've read Kingpin didn't have a name as late as '77.

Indeed. I don't think Richard and Vanessa get last names in this story.

Richard also doesn't look like John Cazale, which is how he apparently looked in the Bendis/Maleev Daredevil run. I thought it was more Young Bela Legosi, personally.

Also: How long did catatonic Kingpin last?
