31 Days of Scans - Favorite Female Character - Kitty Pryde

I thought a lot about which of my favourite characters to include in this post, but ultimately decided that "You never forget your first" and went with MY entry-level X-Man; Kitty Pryde.

I first started buying superhero comics with X-Men 131, which was in the middle of her debut story, against the newly introduced Hellfire Club. She was a gawky teenager, not particularly pretty and she was in over her head with the circumstances and was, frankly and rather refreshingly, not only brave and resourceful, but openly terrified and STILL taking risks to help people she barely new (Which I can always respect). But the X-Men Hellfire Club can be cover in more detail in other posts... if we haven't already... much check on that.

31 Days of Scans - Favorite Male Character: The Joker

This should surprise no one who's familiar with my posts in this community, nor, really, anyone who pays attention to my username.

I. Love. The. Joker. Always have, probably always will.

Now, I'm fully aware of the "Batman/the police/some civilian should totally kill this asshole Villain Sue!" sentiment on many corners of the Internet, and I can understand them. Hell, in some ways, I emphasize with them. For the last ten or fifteen years, the man who once proudly called himself the Clown Prince of Crime has been headed down a pretty steep slide into mindless, humorless violence (interspersed with those obnoxious events that shove themselves in our faces and scream "SEE! SEE? THE JOKER IS BATMAN'S #1 VILLAIN AGAIN! HE'S NO LAUGHING MATTER NOW, BABY!"), and if anything, the DCnU and Scott Snyder have only exacerbated it.

And yet... and yet, no matter how low his low points get, they can never quite cancel out the highs. Perhaps those high points will never return, but even if that's so, he's already got plenty under his belt for us to peruse at our leisure.

Besides, I just can't hate a face like this.

31 Days of Scans- Favorite Male Character: Superior Spider-Man

I've discussed my thoughts on Superior Spider-Man for a while now and it certainly needs no introduction here, so I'll keep it brief. I really enjoyed Otto's character in this as he lives Peter's life and tries to be a hero in ways that only a supervillain would. For the first time since 2007 I was actually interested in 616 Spider-Man again. Part of me's hoping that he'll resurface again somehow after the events of being time-displaced during 'Spiderverse'.

A few scans from earlier posts as well as some new ones...

31 Days of Scans, Day 1: Favorite Male Character (Main Post)

Just in time for Tom Blake's New 52 debut tomorrow, here we celebrate the existence of a man who's had almost as many face changes as Doctor Who himself since his initial inception in 1963! (Also the year Doctor Who debuted, fyi).

The Many Faces of Thomas Blake, aka The Catman! )

Also, sorry this is late. Photobucket wasn't cooperating with me ever since it received 938445989 upgrades. :(

As a reminder, please don't forget to tag your posts as Series: 31 Days Of Scans!

Favorite Male Character: Atom Smasher

In celebration of Al finally returning in the upcoming Convergence: Infinity Inc. mini-series (an absolute must-buy for me), I want to post the defining moment in the life of Albert "Nuklon/Atom Smasher" Rothstein. He really spoke to me as a fellow tall, shy Jew with a dead parent. Scans come from JSA Vol. 1 issues 9-15, collected in the "Darkness Falls" trade. If this does exist on S_D already, I apologize; I searched and couldn't find anything.

Remember when you could get nine issues in a trade for $20? Astrakhan42 remembers )
