And it seemed fitting, this being the last week of Steph's comic and the last most of her and Cass' universe and all.

Adorable, though I do think that those who go back looking through old Batgirl stories with Babs may find themselves a little... disappointed.

Yes, she's the Batgirl who has the highest profile, and she had genuine moments of awesome, but her stories were often... not that impressive to be honest. (IMHO at least)

Agreed 1000x over. Granted, Babs existed in a different era for the Bat world but Cass and Steph have done more wonderful things as Batgirl than Babs ever did.

(i'm still holding out hope for Steph to stay Batgirl in Batman Inc.)

In-universe, I'd think it'd be Cass who'd made the biggest impression.

Barbara set the stage, but it was really as Oracle that she raised the bar high. As BGs, Cass did more and stayed longer.

With all respect to Babs, I've always hated the notion that while yes, she's the "memorable" Batgirl, she's nowhere near IMO the best Batgirl.

In terms of sheer all around natural talent and fighting ability, no question its Cass.

In terms of well roundedness in all categories? Its obiviously Steph. And thats only due to the years of prior experience as Spoiler and Robin.

Yeah, she was a little too wordy, but not insanely so. And seriously, it's been at least a year since she actually learned to speak, she should be capable of more than than monosyllabic sentences.

Surely that's not really a fair comparison to make though? Fan-writers don't have the professional responsibilities that pro's do, nor do pro's have the freedom that fanwriters do.

She might know how to, but prefer not to. Just because she can talk, doesn't mean she will. She may just still prefer the succinct, if brusque, approach.

The professional writers aren't who I'm talking about. I'm talking about the editors and publishers. The ones who tend to exert too much control over the creative process and ruin otherwise decent to good stories, all in the hopes of creating profit, when if they just let people not shit on characters, hey, more readers.

The problem is the guys in charge are fans. They're just fans of a different era to most of s_d. To be honest, this is why I think the people in charge shouldn't be fans, so they can view things with a clear eye and unbiased mind. There is an issue with continuity and new readers that, frankly, I don't think current fans can deal with without getting emotionally involved, and you get half-arsed reboots like DCnU because they want to have their cake and eat it fresh start and keep the characters they love. Five years of superheroing and four Robins? Not a practical solution: the solution of a fan put in charge.
