Scavengers (Part 2): Who's Afraid of the DJD?

Four pages from TRANSFORMERS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE #8...

Last issue, a team of misfit Decepticons discovered a crashed spaceship containing, in suspended animation, Grimlock of the Dinobots. It's one discovery somewhat overshadowed by a second: That they're in the crosshairs of the Decepticon Justice Division (the Decepticon version of internal affairs and made up of some very nasty individuals). Apparently, someone among them is traitor..



They try to use Grimlock as a sort of living booby trap, but it's not very successful.







He doesn't actually manage to take any of the D.J.D. out, but since he's now blown himself up, they figure their job's accomplished and leave, moving on to the next target on their long List of deserters and turncoats.

However, it turns out there's *ahem* more than meets the eye (I'm sorry, I'm so sorry)...







And now that everything else is settled, what to do about Grimlock?

I'd say it works at first :) Grimlock just happens to not be at his peak, but he does punch a few of them in the face.

It's interesting to see their treatment of Autobots improve after a run-in with the DJD. Or maybe it's just that with Krok down Misfire's the one they'll listen to.

I really felt sick reading the fight scene between the DJD and The Scavengers. Not because I didn't like it, I just didn't want any of the Scavengers to die. And I had to step back a think "Wow they've made me care that much about these guys in just one issue"

Yeah, that's quite possibly the most sensible Decepticon plan *ever written*. :p I think my favorite part was earlier in the book, when they were fighting the D.J.D., Tarn is talking up-close to Grimlock when he's not going punch-happy.

"...I sincerely don't know how you've managed it, but you seem to have joined forces with the six biggest failures of all."

I'd post those two relevant panels, if I had a clue how to add them into a reply thread rather than just the O.P. itself.

On a side note today is consided grimlocks brithday, for it he took over the letters page for marvel-uk in 1986.

I am REALLY surprised at the survival rate of the Scavengers in this issue.

Roberts has not held back that much on offing characters in this series - and his OCs get the worst of it, so I was fully expecting Fulcrum to bite it, yet he somehow manages to survive an attempted heroic self-sacrifice.

And, wow, that speech of his. It's a perfect distillation of the IDW Decepticons. All this life affirming stuff about all the great 'Cons he knew...and that one blatant racist comment about Organics. o.o
