Seems like Orko turning evil is a recurring theme in the Masters reimaginings of late. At least he's not a demilich this time.

I kind of like the idea that Orko was actually an evil extra dimensional conqueror who was playing the role of a harmless buffoon all along.

I am also reminded of the 2000 MOTU series, where Orko is actually a powerful magic user on his home planet, but needs a focusing wand to use his magic properly on other dimensions (Which he of course loses when he comes to Eternia).

Orko was a powerful archmage in the original series too. His problem then was that the magic of his home dimension doesn't work the same way as Eternia's magic.

I am really enjoying this mini actually, a bit to much Batman worship but I am enjoying the characterizations of Marlena, Constantine, Black Alice, and Skeletor. The first issue has a lot of cringe worthy dialog when Giffen was doing the actual script.

You might suspect that Alan Moore was already having doubts about the grimdarkery, even as he was working on Watchmen (which was published starting at about the same time as Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?).

Suffice to say it's not just Evil Orko for EXTREME'S sake -- this is Giffen, after all.
