If you've bought an Image book in the last two years, the odds are that you've seen an ad for Revival; usually one looking like this. The covers are all (with one exception) drawn by Jenny Frison. I posted the "beginners' guide" a while back, in case you are unfamiliar with the series.

It is a genuinely unsettling book, not just in terms of gore (there's lashings of it in this post, so, you've been warned), in body horror (which is closely tied in to gore. I felt my stomach turn when we got to the girl on the cover of #13) and the unpleasantness of people (Like a lot of horror, it raises the question of "Who is the real sick man, in this so called society?" -there was one bit at the end of the third trade that was horrible because it was likely).

It was also nominated in the 2013 Harvey for Best Artist(Mike Norton), Best Writer (Tim Seeley), Best Cover Artist (Jenny Frison) and Best New Series, but didn't win any of them.

While I can't say they make me want to read the comics, those covers /do/ look good.

I agree. The cover art is fantastic, but the story (though it sounds pretty good objectively) doesn't sound like my kind of thing.

I've got to say, after all of those covers that look like they came straight out of a horror movie, the last one with Jesus really threw me for a loop. Now I can't stop thinking about that poor hypothetical guy who would pick up issue twenty first and get something completely different than the Bible-filled romp through Wonderland he was expecting to read.

Well there's a beginner's guide linked in the opening paragraph. But anyhow.

In a small town in Winsconsin the dead start coming back to life, and are unable to die again. Half of the series is a mystery-horror to why the dead are back to life, which may have something to do with a white monster that's in the woods. The other half is how the revived people are affecting the people in the town in various messed up ways.

The main characters is a Sheriff, who inherited the position from her father and is a bit unsure of herself. Her son Cooper, who has witnessed the white monster. And the sheriff's irresponsible sister Martha. The girl who is wielding the scythe all badass-like in the cover. Martha is one of the revived, and tends to act a bit... crazy... whether it's because of supernatural reasons who knows.

Only read the first couple of issues though.
