In honor of the Fourth(well, here it's still the 4th), here are eleven pages from Jack Kirby's ginormous 1976 Bicentennial Special. Enjoy the sheer Kirby awesomeness.
Given Cap is lost in time now, here's another such incident.

So, fresh from his practice, as mentioned here...

Wait, here's someone else to stop him from practicing! Goddammit!
Cap meets this Buda fellow, who for some reason sends him back and forth(with this little pyramid-mark thingie) through America's past, I suppose to teach him some lesson about the Bicentennial.
Mmm, good Kirby crackle. So yeah, he's now in the past for some reason. That's right. It's 70s Kirby, and you're just going to have to give up the "idea" it'll "make sense" right now.
Welly welly well, look who it is first thing! And what the fuck were they doing to Bucky? For that matter, what if this Cap hadn't shown?

Hitler's ass is, of course, kicked, escape is gained, and Bucky is lost in time. Cap screams. Then he ends up in the 1700s and meets Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross.

And has a truly interesting reaction.

"Swear to CHRIST I'll get that Ben Franklin!"
Though Steve is a graphic designer--I don't think he invented his costume's design...? And...what, did he want royalties?
But on the other hand, maybe this is a meta-comment from the much-robbed Kirby. But in either case it's funny.
Soon we're off to the West and Geronimo, and a rapidly approaching cavalry, and Kirby showing that he knew something about the times while Joe Simon didn't(compare Eagle Free in PREZ). Guess what happens.

And to think, there's a lot more! I love 70s tabloid comics, don't you?
Note to mods: this is from a book over 70 pages long, so it's well within limits. Happy 4th!

When the correct version is:
"It's 70s Kirby, and you're just going to have to give up the idea it'll be anything less than AWESOME."
Glad we could clear that up.

Date: 2009-07-06 10:37 pm (UTC)Its also hilarious if it FREAKED HIM OUT because it just reads like on of those nonsensical comments you make when you are completely befuddled.
When you're in such shock over what just happened, that the only thing you can say makes no sense whatsoever in the situation (ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X6VoFBCE9k)
