Supposedly Will Murray has said the idea was 100% his, but if I were him I would credit Ditko as the co-creator, lest I be haunted in my sleep by ghostly prosthelytizing of semantics and objectivist ideology.

(On that note, it's sort of funny that, even thirty years later, Ditko ws still creating characters who appealed to fans that would otherwise treat Ayn Rand devotion as a red flag)

She and Speedball always stuck me as the Ditko characters that felt the least Ditko.

Like, apparently he hated that Dr Stange fans assumed the visuals were inspired by drug use.

So naturally you're going to introduce the world to a whacky guy named "Speedball"

It's sort of interesting that this comic (itself a total inventory dump was immediately met with Marvel very self-effacingly taking the L. Mark "Scourge Creator" Gruenwald immediately presented her as a case of Marvel Universe dead weight that creators can't really do anything with, amusingly enough while promoting the 93 Annuals, which had the gimmick of promising exciting new creations readers could be on the for ground floor for, pretty much all of them becoming more obscure than Doreen here. (Though Genis did well for a while. Blood Wraith has also had surprisingly longevity, and is just waiting for the Black Knight to get his big break. And I think Adam-X has popped up here and there, sort of for the same reasons Squirrel Girl got revived, even as they are the absolute opposite characters in terms of mission statements.)

Nightwatch popped back up in She-Hulk a few years back, in an interesting story.

That one always bothered me.

Partly because of the spoiler.

Partly because the last time we saw him he died.

They tried very hard to make Annex happen at the time and he got brought back for the Avengers Initiative.

(Which is even weirder when you find out she has some sort of history with Wolverine)

I think this story sort of implies Iron Man is the first other superhero SG has met.

But it's so weird that she'd be talking shit about a random ex-X-Man. Maybe Doreen is an a was anglophile and she stong opinions on who should be in Excalibur.

It's shocking that Dr. Doom has never tried to wipe out or enslave squirrel in revenge for this defeat. All the times he's become god level, he's never tried to snap squirrels away.
