The third annual Hellfire Gala #1 issue. Please, Marvel, just number it by the year or something if you're so dead set against a #2!

Hm. What a weird lineup. Iceman I'm not even going to bother with, I don't need yet another comic about how Bobby Drake realizes he's much more powerful than he thought. (Although it'll be an interesting test of whether Orlando can get away with more than Grace was allegedly allowed to, back in the day...)

Dark could be good, I like what I've seen of Foxe's writing and it's got a pretty unconventional roster.

Realms... I don't know. I love the mixed-up all-women cast, but Gronbekk's a Thor writer, which makes me worry this might be more of an Asgard book than an X-book.

Dani's powers manifesting as a psionic bow and arrow dates back to the 90's when she was in the MLF. So stereotypical, but not unprecedented.

She's also had the oddity of being one of the fewe Native American heroes and she's at least partly defined by her connections to the Norse pantheo, of all things.

'member when Dani wandered around with a -spear- instead, during that period of the New Mutants where her powers made tangible objects?

Yeeeah.

At least Realm of X isn't another Tini Howard book for a change.

Maddie on an X-team again is not neccessarily wrong, but I do wish they had dealt better with just how horrible the X-men have been to her over the years.

Just an "Oh, you can have back a copy of the memories I stole from you" doesn't really get close to cutting it, really.

The Zero I know about was the android that used to work for Stryfe. This isn't him, right?

And with Curse on the second team do they even have to ask whether it will turn good or bad?

Looks like a different Zero.

And I don't think we can define Curse by her past life, which has been acknowledged as being problematic and with little in the way of guidance, any more than we should, say, Magik, who spent her adoolescnce with three fifths of her soul being demonic.

Can it be defined as "past life" when it happened like last week Marvel time?

Nah, this Zero is Kenji Uedo from Generation Hope. He's a biomechanical shapeshifter, like if Warlock was Tetsuo from Akira.

Putting Curse on a team with Typhoid Mary certainly sounds like a poor idea. They should really keep that kid away from any bad role models.

Yeah… seeing this Zero back is not necessarily a good thing. He was a bit… erratic and was killed for his own good.
I wonder if his history with Martha/Cerebella will be brought up. (He gave her a weird flesh body briefly)

Huh. Don't remember his codename at all. I was thinking they'd made a mixup and resurrected Weapon Zero, even though Maverick is alive.

Fool that I was, I was hoping after Sins of Sinister they'd dial down the usage of him for a while.
Teach me to hope...

Most of these sound kind of interesting, but not enough to grab me.

I see Warren is Archangel again this week.
Albert's quite the deep cut.

"Breakout star of Children of the Atom."
"'Breakout star of that title that was endlessly delayed thanks to 2020 and then stopped after six issues' wouldn't fit."

Oh, hey. Dust's not being written by Spurrier anymore then.
Definite step up.

Warren's been able to go back and forth between Angel and Archangel for a while, hasn't he? Or did that status quo get changed and I missed it?

And both of them have anger control problems in their alternate forms, for some reason. I mean, Archangel has had them on occasion (though I think they've been dealt with several times already) but Monet less so.

Can't imagine why Monet, who's always been a temperamental sort as is, might have anger problems in the form she was forced into by her brother so he could feed on her.

... does raise the question of why she actually uses it at all, really.

It would be interested in seeing Typhoid Mary in an X-Men book, though.

Given that we know the launch of the event is that Immortal X-Men issue where Doug speaks for Krakoa to the Quiet Council, I choose to believe they're both basically catching up with the Council's Annual Appraisals.

Xavier - Where to being with you Chuck... oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Promised no jails on Krakoa, with the Pit as a short term thing and suddenly it's the ONLY punishment. Messed up relationship opportunities with your son.

Emma - Snappy dresser, snappier wit, you GO girl! A+ rating, and that's not because you threatened to mindzap us into infancy if we didn't... Probably

Storm - Effortless style and powers, but for the love of the sacred biome, pick a group already! Are you Quiet Council, Great Ring ot Brotherhood this week? We can't keep up.

Kitty - My Speaker said he'd pout for a week if I didn't give you an A+ rating, and we don't want that... Not that I wouldn't have given you an A+ anyway. He's also asked me to express how much he's loving the Captain Harlock cosplay... I don't what that is, but I'm a landmass, I don't have much time for television.

Y'know Si Spurrier's not perfect but I do appreciate that he at least had Chuck finally realize how terrible and fucked up he's been to David all these years.

Also Ororo can be in as many groups as she wants, lord knows Logan did it for long enough.

This all reads as very familiar and very regressive. Lowest point for Mutants. Humans hate Mutants even more. Nimrod successful. Powers malfunctioning. Orchis winning. I can’t see myself buying any of these, except maybe Iceman.

Dark X-Men and Realm of X have the kind of crazy line-ups I like.
Especially Realm: not a single one of the Not New Not Different.

I'm glad that Zero is back. He was great in Generation Hope, at least while Gillen was writing. Interested in Albert, Azazel and Emplate too, but I hope they are not there as redshirts.

Dani on Asgard is always a good thing in my book, as are her interactions with Illyana.

As far as I know Albert was last seen in "The Hunt for Wolverine: Weapon Lost" (The oddball title in that X-event, where there was only one mutant on the actual team (Daredevil, Misty Knight and a random Inhuman) looking for Logan, and that was Cypher, who was suddenly a hobo-esque intenet junkie who was slightly out of his mind because he'd suddenly tried to "decode the entire Internet" because... I have no idea why to be honest.)

Albert slit Doug's throat (he got better thanks to Inhuman tech) and then Daredevil and Misty pounded the crap out of him (Albert, not Doug) and Doug zapped him with an Inhuman energy-bazooka thingie... so someone probably picked up the remains.

Wait, I thought Albert appeared in his, and Elsie Dee's, mini after that where he ran roughshod through Madripoor picking up Elsie's parts.

Or am I misremembering the order of events? Could be that too.
