Dominion with Paco and Lucas, where I start collecting signed apologies from anyone who said that the crossover wouldn’t impact Krakoa. -- Kieron Gillen
Is anyone else a little disappointed? I thought the buildup was great and it started off really juicy, but for the most part it was just mutants curbstomping the universe and Mother Righteous winning. The thousand year time span didn’t do anything for me either.
The logic of "we've allowed power to get too concentrated, therefore, I will concentrate power even further into myself or, if I'm not available, the completely reliable and unsuspicious colossus." From storm makes my head spin.
Well, Colossus IS totally reliable and unsuspicious. Mainly by dint of having almost zero lines during council scenes; he is the epitomoe of the QUIET council.
COLOSSUS: Don't worry, my friends, I would never betray the X-Men. Except
the time I betrayed the X-Men and joined the Acolytes. Or the time Arcade
brainwashed me into betraying the X-Men and it was really really easy for
him.
STORM: It's fine, Colossus. I see nothing suspicious about your interest in
running our black ops unit or the way your girlfriend disappeared months
ago.
KATE: Well, fortunately we have someone who can see the future, and therefore warn us if, for whatever reason, one of us was brainwashed. But she somehow couldn't foresee that killing a certain senator would doom all mutantkind.
An okay finale - I think the only real disappointment stems from the constant comparisons to AoA, because the original AoA had a closed, complete ending in Omega. SoS: Dominion rushes through its conclusion only to end on a cliffhanger that segues into the next act of Immortal and Red. It would've been nice to have an ending with a bit more weight and significance (especially in Year 1000)
Just to be clear: I still think Sinister is Gillen's overused pet character and it makes him tremendously irritating. BUT, that said, this was a satisfying conclusion to his schemes.
Also funny that apparently being sinistered does nothing one way or another to Percy-Beast.
Odd how quickly the following issue of Immortal seems to walk back on that ending right there. They're getting thrown in the Pit here and it's painted as being a long time thing, then "nope, s'all cool now." (Wondering if Hickman borrowing Charles for Ultimate Invasion had something to do with that.)
It’s not necessarily the end so much as it’s the next phase. Mother Righteous won the event, and since she gets power from gratitude, Storm thanking her on behalf of everyone will probably come to bite them in the behind.
I think it’s a pause in the diamond Sinister situation but we still have the heart, club, and spade Sinister roaming around. One of whom is now a Dominion, which is supposedly a big deal and a major outcome of this whole thing but I have trouble caring about in any way. I think Dominions were only threatened by Galactus and Phoenix, so maybe that’ll bring Phoenix back into the X-fold.
Well, it wasn't Dr. Stasis. He was killed much earlier and he wasn't nearly as informed as Mother Righteous and...Spade...Orb...Guy. He certainly wouldn't have been at the ready to absorb the energy Sinister released when he killed every single Sinister mutant at once. Mother Righteous may have also been dead, but...magic and all that. I dunno what the last Essex clone was doing.
Maybe it wasn't a clone at all? Maybe Essex left a piece of himself inside each one, waiting for one of them to achieve their goal. And when Sinister opened the way, Nathanial got there first?
