Clearly they were sisters who wore matching rings and wrote each other love poetry in a tone that was completely normal for the time.

You know, it’s funny. In the original story, Irene Adler was happily married to another man and Sherlock Holmes had no romantic affiliation with her, and it was only later adaptations and reimaginings that shipped them together. That was probably why the writers decided to establish Mystique as actual the inspiration to Sherlock Holmes because Destiny’s name (or at least her alias) was Irene Adler. So, in-universe, where the first Irene Adler story was her happily marrying someone else and there was no romantic involvement between her and Holmes, was Arthur Conan Doyle actually erasing Destiny and Mystique as a couple? Or was the person Irene was marrying in the original story a stand-in for Mystique and he was really trying to respectfully establish Holmes and Watson as his OCs?

On the other hand Irene was also the inspiration for the Watson character as she assisted Mystique in their cases so that does make you wonder about the "closeness" Holmes and Watson shared 👀

Man, so many years of them apart IRL, Marvel are really making the most of finally reuniting them!

I really hope Marvel will do either a miniseries or an ongoing starring the two of them soon!
