I wish in just one story telling of the joker. Someone just simply put a bullet through his head. Batman can be a self-righteous hypocrite about it. But He is protecting by plot armor, no matter who is around him.
Even if nobody allowed to killed him. Paralyzing is an option.
As I understand it, the "Gotham" TV series had the notion that the Joker was a sort of viral philosophy, and that someone would ALWAYS become a new Joker if soemthing happened to the last manifestation.
"In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have let an insane murder-clown put a gas bomb in my lungs." --- "The only way to deactivate the trigger is to kill them. And none of that nonsense of temporarily stopping their hearts. That's not death and you know it."
I am done to death of this "kill vs no-kill" garbage in a world were contractual immunity exist, but if we have to do this tripe I am glad to see them having some fun with it.
I'm willing to bet that killing one of the Jokers may stop THAT particular trap from going off, but immediately triggers all of the others. Surely the Joker would find that funnier. He makes Ghost Maker break his promise to Batman while at the same time causing him to be responsible for the death of who knows how many people. But hey...he saved THOSE hostages, right? Hopefully it was one of the ones with the trigger that would kill everyone in a one kilometer radius. Odd that Joker is using the metric system, but I guess that fits since he's not dealing with Americans at the moment.
Well, yeah - but you bring up Nightwing, Oracle, Red Hood etc. and they've all got qualities that make them distinct from Batman.
Ghost-Maker's thing is " rivalling Batman in what he does ". This book's got him in charge of a bunch of Bat-franchisees, in stories that'd largely be the same if the book was " Batman running Batman Incorporated ".
The conflict on Ghost-Maker's part Joker explicitly states - " be yourself once again " - is a point of distinction, but it's not a significant one - if he did that, it'd be what everyone expected. If he didn't do that, he'd lose the selling point that makes him distinct from Batman.
This doesn't seem to be heading for anything other than a foregone conclusion, so there's nothing to it other than " Art looks good, script's competent - 7/10. "
Ghost-Maker at least during Tynion’s run was different enough from Batman that you could have him in an other title without people thinking he’s a Batman expy.
There are similarities with Batman but only because he's in a Batman title where the two are being compared and contrasted. You could do the same thing with characters like Moon Knight, Daredevil and Black Panther.
But from a purely hypothetical standpoint if the same exact character were to show up in Shang-Chi people wouldn't immediately go "Oh he's a stand in for Batman" because in terms of personality, motives and looks he's completely different.
Eh, it's more interesting than that retelling of Batman/Joker's first encounter in Brave and the Bold, at least. Kinda reminds me of when Joker used the Royal Flush gang and had bombs planted in Justice League.

So sick of these stories.
