Because this series is just full of, "But why didn't they...?" and "How could...?" moments. Like, why didn't Mary DODGE the lightning and let it hit vampire Shazam? He'd turn back into the still living Billy. Or perhaps turn him back and then immediately turn herself back into Mary Marvel. It's not like Billy would ever try to become Shazam again. He can only turn back if he is saying it with the desire to do good. Unless we're throwing that concept out like everything else in this series.
I think it was applied to Billy because of what happened with Black Adam. The Wizard was trying to prevent another Black Adam by adding stipulations. Honestly, it's the most sensible thing he could do.
I liked that final twist with Deadman. I was really wondering about Deathstroke's characterization in some moments in the comics . It is interesting to think how many of them could have been Deadman, specially because we know that he's been in the background following the team all along and Constatine makes clear there was manipulation involved.
What happened Superman was sadly tragic The final scene not shown here. Where he reminisces about his childhood was moving heart breaking.
But I feel killing him in a side story, surrounded by characters he doesn't really have a personal relationship with, was a weird choice. It okay that Supergirl was one of the main characters of the main series and most other (important) vampires get to be killed by their loved ones. Unlike Billy's demise, which could only be in done in this story. I think you could have gotten a similar tragic ending of the characters in the same circumstances.
I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a fan of Mary Marvel particularly, so I can only imagine how it is to be a fan. Must be murder on the blood pressure, especially over the last... *checks watch* sixteen years or so.
