Tim examines his various lots in life and his place in the Bat-family. While lamenting about missing his father and having had to process a lot of emotional upheaval regarding his loss.
I love Tim. Haven't been really feeling his more recent stories, and try as I might, I just have not gelled with Bernard. I'm not sure how much of it is me being low-key salty it wasn't Kon (it still feels very calculated of DC to give us a queer Robin and Superboy, but make sure it wasn't one of the two popular combos of the two) and how much I feel like Bernard just hasn't given us anything as a character outside of being a generic love interest.
I'd like more depth from Bernard as well. It didn't help that he was obscure to begin with, came back after so many years in limbo, and Tim basically went "Welp, now I like dudes as well" after five minutes with him.
I just don't really recall all that much development storywise to back things up. Gimme a slow burn over a few issues...
It's mostly been an interesting take on Tim, and I have enjoyed his and Bernard's relationship developing and especially the various secret identity shenanigans of a sort it feels the Bat-titles haven't done in years: Tim worrying about keeping his identity as Robin secret from Bernard, Bernard actually knowing pretty much all along because he's smart (but deciding not to say anything until Tim is ready to tell him), and one of Tim's neighbours, who saw Robin's costume lying on the floor of Tim's boat, is now convinced Tim is cheating on Bernard, with Robin)
I'm not sure I've ever seen Tim think that he's particularly wanted to be like his father though.
"is now convinced Tim is cheating on Bernard, with Robin"
It seems sort of inevitable, actually.
When a superhero can't separate their identities you either end up with "Poor Clark Kent, Lois Lane is clearly fooling around with Superman behind his back" or "Peter Parker and Spider-Man are dating".
(or just everyone knowing Daredevil's, Green Arrow's, ect identity and just playing along)
Giving the job to his soulmate, Rhodey, later didn't exactly help on that front.
Though, given how thirsty the internet is for animated Hobie Brown, I think people are going to reevaluate all those times Peter hired the Prowler to prove he's not gay...er, I mean...to prove he's not Spider-Man.
Wait, hold up... I thought Tim did want to be Robin back when he started out? Or am I getting him confused with one of the others? (Because could've sworn there was something about how Tim wanted to be Robin and it was Bats who was against it after what happened to Jason.)
Tim's original plan was to get Dick to be Robin again since Batman needed a Robin and Bruce as written in a Lonely place of dying probably did need one.
After managing to make a strong argument for Bruce needing a partner but dick refusing to go back t the Subordinate role Tim took the job but several times in his early days he made it quiet clear he didn't want to be Robin when he was Dick's age he wanted to go back to a normal life.
I've been obliged to wrap up big story arcs faster than planned twice in my own career, so I feel like I know an editorially rushed ending when I see one. I see one here.

Remember when Iron Man was passed off as Tony Stark’s bodyguard?

Date: 2023-07-01 12:46 am (UTC)I don't think he particularly thinks HE needs to be that Robin.
(Though it's complicated by how poorly the attempts to replace him with Steph and Damian were handled)
He'd probably be happy to continue being the World's Greatest Detective* under a different terrible codename.
*Actually - at this point - I think the title goes to the chimpanzee that Batman is always running to.
