"Cyclops is the coolest. We love him. We always loved him. Has anybody paid a higher price and worked harder to see this day dawn for mutants? And yet, he remembers where he comes from. Not an island, but a team. He’s been a part of the X-Men since the beginning, and they’ve saved the world more times than he can count, and I think the team has saved him, too. He’s got such a big story over the course of the next year. I’m really happy to get to tell it."

Did Jean just perform some psychic mumbo jumbo on Lorna?

I think she just brushed hair from Lorna's face.

AAARGH! Yes, you ARE the same as them! That's been the issue the entire time! Mutants are like the newest car. It's got neat special features, but it's still a car. They can pretend to be above the flaws of mankind, but they aren't and never will be.

I mean, let's be honest: the way some humans are is enough to make someone want to distance themselves from the species. I can see why someone would be keen to grab the chance to do so when presented.

But, that's only some of them. And sometimes remembering the portion you want to remain closest to is the hardest part.

Love isn't enough, Jean (as someone who is constantly battling her own depression and mental health issues -- even WITH competent professional help)

Could just be that Scott Summers is one of my favorites from way, way, way back, but I love that the "one-eyed" guy with perpetual rose-colored glasses is the one seeing things the most clearly.

Good to know. Just don't kill again, Marvel. He's my favorite. And for some odd reason - they can't figure out how to do him well on television or film. (Although X-men Evolution's version wasn't too bad.)

There was an X-men Evolution tie-in comic where just after Scott joins the team, Logan explains that he can now never casually go into a bank, since, now that he's an official do-gooder, that will guarantee that he blunders into an in-process robbery.

Scott goes "Really?" As an exasperated Logan notices a bunch of guys in ski masks entering the bank, but Scott is less concerned about the laws of narrative causality than he's adorably pleased to be labeled an official do-gooder.

That's kind of similar to when Cyclops and the young X-men got brought to the future by Beast (playing mad scientist again), and forced to be under Wolverine's tutelage. Wolverine was forced to chase after a teenage Cyclops, and ended up chasing him into a bank.

You make some excellent points, Scott. You're right, there are some serious ethical concerns associated with separatism. The bigots would love nothing more than for mutants to just abandon their home and go live somewhere far away. Mutants shouldn't reject their right to belong, such as by abandoning their citizenships.

In other words: Jean, what the hell do you mean he thinks like a Krakoan? Scott just made an argument against mutant separatism. That's as un-Krakoan as you can get.

(Did Duggan not realize he was writing Scott as arguing against Krakoa?)

Actually I think meant scott was talking like a human. Which scott took as a compliment. Really, scott has always been critical of krakoa in this run, its why he argued for this team to exist so they don't lose touch with humanity if I remember correctly.

Scott's pretty clearly been uneasy about Krakoa from the jump. I mean, I'm sure he's cool with his polyamorous quadrangle lunar sex palace and all, but didn't he push to leave Krakoa, build the treehouse, live full-time in NYC, and be a hero for all of humanity instead of noping off to a tropical island? Wasn't he uncomfortable about keeping the secret of resurrection, to the point of trying to leak it to Ben Urich?

I really enjoy this writing, because if there's one thing Scott Summers desperately craves, it's the love and approval of others. He's lived for it his entire adolescent and adult life; the fear of its absence, or of losing or no longer deserving it, drives him. It's the root of every neurosis he has. Of COURSE he'd want to stick up for humanity, instead of giving up on them,

I hope the writers are smart enough to have Jean come back to Scott at the end of this, rather than the reverse

Scott is saying "I want to use my powers to help people, humans *and* mutants."

Jean is saying "We can't pretend we're humans with extra features. Mainly because we did that for so long."
