X-Men #24: "Once an X-Man..."
Jul. 5th, 2023 07:49 pm
"Cyclops is the coolest. We love him. We always loved him. Has anybody paid a higher price and worked harder to see this day dawn for mutants? And yet, he remembers where he comes from. Not an island, but a team. He’s been a part of the X-Men since the beginning, and they’ve saved the world more times than he can count, and I think the team has saved him, too. He’s got such a big story over the course of the next year. I’m really happy to get to tell it."
-- Gerry Duggan

"...you're always an X-Man."

Date: 2023-07-07 01:26 am (UTC)Scott goes "Really?" As an exasperated Logan notices a bunch of guys in ski masks entering the bank, but Scott is less concerned about the laws of narrative causality than he's adorably pleased to be labeled an official do-gooder.

Date: 2023-07-07 02:35 am (UTC)In other words: Jean, what the hell do you mean he thinks like a Krakoan? Scott just made an argument against mutant separatism. That's as un-Krakoan as you can get.
(Did Duggan not realize he was writing Scott as arguing against Krakoa?)

Date: 2023-07-07 03:40 am (UTC)I really enjoy this writing, because if there's one thing Scott Summers desperately craves, it's the love and approval of others. He's lived for it his entire adolescent and adult life; the fear of its absence, or of losing or no longer deserving it, drives him. It's the root of every neurosis he has. Of COURSE he'd want to stick up for humanity, instead of giving up on them,
