MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN: Episode 1

Adult Swim has posted the full first episode of the new animated series MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN on YouTube.

Like the also-great SUPERMAN & LOIS, it comes at Superman from an angle we haven't seen a bajillion times before. It's leaning alllllllll the way into anime aesthetics, but in a really fresh and charming way. The animation's from LEGEND OF KORRA and Voltron vets Studio Mir, doing their usual splendid work. The writing and voice acting are clever and unusually humane. There's even a revamp of the Newsboykid Legion!

I really hope this series does well. And I'm very happy to see what they're doing here with Clark, Lois and Jimmy.

This had lots of nice funny and tinder moments. Clark tries to be normal, but it is in his character wholesome to help, no matter how little the situation is that needs his attention.

Weird to see Jimmy the same age as Clark and Lois through. His conspiracy theories cracks me up.

As the creator mentioned. Clark unlocks a new ability. When the crisis that he handles calls for it to help him. I wonder how long before Clark gets heat vision and freeze breath. I thought maybe heat vision would come out this episode to help save Lois from the robots. But nope. He just got a power boost. Also nice reimagining entry of the Newsboy Legion.

Planning on watching this as soon as I can make time. But it's going to be hard to keep from breaking up when I hear Bradward Boimler's voice coming out of Clark Kent. :)

Clark is HOT, Jimmy is cute, but Lois looking like a young boy is strange for me. It looks like an excellent cartoon and exactly the tyle of Superman adaptation I missed.

I find tomboy Lois to be really cute.

She's really cute, but she's Luz Noceda and not Lois Lane as portrayed in the comics. I love the cartoon, but this shift in design and characterisation was kinda weird to me.

Everyone looks so damned CUTE! The anime style works well.

It sold me on the core concept within three minutes by showing Clark delighting in being able to fly from the moment he realises he can. (Because if you can't convince me that Superman enjoys flying more than any other power, then you might as well go home now, because I will refuse to believe anything else you are peddling)

The interactions between the three leads make the characters feel fresh, especially now they are closer to the same age (So Jimmy isn't "the kid" anymore, he's just slightly deranged). The relationships feel plausible with Lois and Jimmy be co-enablers for the other's monkeyshines, up to a point, and Clark being just adorable in his dorkyness.

I am loving the various dynamics of Lois, Clark and Jimmy in any scene with any two of them together. Lois and Jimmy as mutual enablers, Clark and Jimmy being friends, Lois and Clark being... Lois and Clark.

Oh and the Newskid Legion are amazing! (Patty is a particular highlight) and Jimmy's using the name "Flamebird" online is neat.

Anyone else getting Light Hope from "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power" vibes from the Krypton tech?

This was so delightful! Action and heart.

Interesting take on some DC/DcAu villains there.

Also, the three at the end included a military man. I wonder if it's General Eiling, or General Lane?

According to the producer. The person supposed to be Slade Joseph Wilson aka Deathstroke.

Also Jor-El is supposedly a homage off of Metal Gear Boig Boss.

Really love that Clark clean up the mess that was the cause by his fight with Leslie Willis aka livewire.

Even though Jor-el gave Clark his suit. I really like that Martha can’t put some personal touches on it.

Lois and Jimmy together investigating are so adorable quirky.

I think my first thought was it was Rick Flagg, what with Waller there, but Sam Lane would make more logical storytelling choice.

I told one of my friends my 'Eiling or Lane' theory and their reply was "Oh, for Maximum Drama, it has to be Lane."

This has a really strong start, I hope this series goes the distance, Jack Quad has a great voice for Clark and Superman. I'm hoping Guardian shows up as a competing hero, or as a powered officer for the vigilant Superman.

How come this is on Adult Swim and not Cartoon Network?
