Forever War: GI Joe 36

Issue 36 is pretty much just 3 elongated action sequences. One is about the Joes on the Jane trying to survive its sinking while under attack, another has Joes onboard the Whale hovercraft assaulting a Cobra stronghold on an atoll, and a third is about Scarlett running into some undercover Crimson Guard on a ferry. For obvious reasons, I'll be excerpting the Scarlett storyline.















Looks like we're gonna need another Timmy Fred.

Don't they eventually show Snake Eyes' face, and he pretty much has two vertical scars (much like Scar Face), along with a deformed eye? Based on Fred II's reaction here, ol' Snake Eyes looks like Jason or Pinhead under that mask!!

Apparently so.
According to the good folks at the Transformers Wiki in their synopsis of Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #12, and I quote, "he was no oil painting, but he wasn't that hideous."
But that's not for another eighty-odd issues or so.

Since it turns out Fred II knew Snake-Eyes from before his accident, maybe some of the shock was realizing he recognized the true face under the mask despite the disfigurement.

I was willing to accept Scarlett being in need of rescue in "Silent Interlude" and "Hot Potato"-- every good guy in an ensemble series should need help SOMEtimes-- but this is starting to look like a pattern. Guys, I know this is supposed to be a series for young boys, but I promise you, the kind of boys who have crushes on Scarlett will not mind if the ass-kicking female fighter actually gets to kick more ass. Snake Eyes is already cool; the people around him don't need to be nerfed by circumstances so that he can shine.

(Love the "it's so romantic can you get me a hot dog oh and a coffee" routine, though. That was gold.)
