Ripcord has parachuted onto Cobra Island to find answers about Candy, but Zartan has defeated and swapped places with him. The Joes, including some obligatory new guys, are going in to rescue him. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are also on their way to Cobra Island to kill Zartan for killing Hard Master. We haven't heard from the October Guard for a while, so forget I brought them up.

I kinda thought Cobra Commander was being all Hans Gruber with his "oh, you'll join your daughter soon enough" thing, but he really doesn't know what tf is going on. At first I thought it was silly that no one was telling him this stuff, but then, Cobra not having any middle managers would explain why they've managed to become a world power and almost conquer the planet.

There's not a lot to recap this issue, so I am just going to post some ninja goodness.

So Zartan is Ripcord, but Cobra doesn't know that, so they're trying to kill him, while Ripcord is Zartan, but the Arashikage don't know that, so they're trying to kill him.

Ripcord manages to convince Professor Appel that Cobra Commander is lying about Candy, which buys him a one-way ticket on that new Firebat we saw on the first page.

We end the issue with Zartan rescued by the Joes, believing him to be Ripcord. So shut up, everyone who wants Seven Samurai in the Star Wars universe, we're doing Face/Off in the Cobra Wars.

Now introducing the Terrordrome and Firebat play set!
I had one of those as a child… we’re still in prime “young Beyondthefringe was an avid GI Joe collector era for the first few years of the line…” era.

And Alpine the mountain guy gets a mountain to climb! Lucky he joined just when he’d be useful for ten minutes.

I figure Cobra had a whole ton of middle managers to keep the organization running while the er… “colorful” leadership was busy scheming and throwing parades and stuff.

The Terror Drome still rates as one of my favorite villain HQs/playsets ever.

Said colorful leadership also busy trying to kill one another.

From the sheer amount of stuff we see Cobra handling behind the scenes -- the actual day to day operation -- it makes sense for there to be a whole slew of anonymously evil, utterly banal, Bill Lundbergh style managers who will absolutely drown you in paperwork while plotting how best to take over the country...

...in spite of their beloved leader donning a metal helmet and riding forth with Chameleon Biker, the Masked Scotsman, EVIL ORTHODONTIST, Major Bad Poet, Treacherous Ninja, and Teenage Boy Fantasy #1 to do battle in the streets while simultaneously trying to kill each other.

Those TPS reports won't file themselves, after all. And -someone- needs to hire, train, and pay the troops...
