And if you're a fan of the 90's X-Men, this might be your lucky day

So, these are the three main X-Books.

So we have "Uncanny", with Wolverine, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and Gambit

"Adjectiveless" with Cyclops, Beast (Probably the recently revived "pre-descent into villainy" version), Juggernaut, Magik, Psylocke, Quentin Quire, Temper (Oya's new codename) and Professor M (Magneto)

And "Exceptional", the "Young mutant" book, with Emma Frost, Kate Pryde and three newcomers: Bronze, Axo and Melee.

With these as the other titles in the range, about which we have no details, but that's the mid 90's X-Factor logo and the original early 90's X-Force logo.

We have a video trailer too

I have my own opinions about this, but I'll leave them until later, I'm interested in what your opinions are of this apparent direction, in the post-Krakoan era.

But that would require the story to make sense and not be 90s nostalgia pandering. And apparently the money's all invested in 90s nostalgia pandering?

The "HYDRA but red with a flower theme" one? The "Cap was a secret Nazi" one? The "Bush was so sour about Obama winning he appointed Norman Osborn the President-In-All-But-Name" one?

Marvel America has been under control of a form of fascist government seemingly every other year. No wonder the average MU citizen seems so angry and gullible, their faith in democrscy must be totally shot.

Considering every reaction I see to this seems to be weary disappointment and disbelief, I'd like to say it's a huge mistake that Marvel will regret.

But remakes and nostalgia sell for a reason, and if DC could milk "Watchmen" to a dry husk, Marvel can certsinly do the same with "X-Men 97".

You can count me out. I care for none of these creative teams especially, and none of these lineups inspire the imagination the way that Kieron Gillen's next project does.

A shame. Krakoa was imperfect, but the concept deserved better than a totally Scorched Earth approach under a clown like Duggan.

She kind of reminds me of that old Kotobukiya statue of hers, but she just looks... wrong. Who knows, maybe seeing her new design from a better angle will change my tune.

Seems fine. There's always a swing back to more character-centric storytelling after a big high-concept run, and it's not as if the X-Office ever fully utilized the potential of the Krakoa era anyway. Given Marvel's general lack of high-concept writers at the moment, a team of Simone, McKay and Ewing should be perfectly adequate for a year or two.

Not sold on the art but I love two out of the three writers and I like that it looks like each book will have its own identity. Half the time these X-Men relaunches feel like one team with multiple books. Here we get some separation geography* and thematically**.

*I guess it's still technically possible Wolverine will be in every book but that'd be a heck of a commute.

**At a glance it looks like "X-Men as traditional Marvel superheroes", "X-Men as a political movement" (how can it be anything else with that lineup?), and "X-Men as a school".

For what it’s worth, I don’t take any offence from it. I was being very harsh myself.

I am the glue that holds this entire franchise together. Where would the X-Men be without me in particular? *What* would they be? Nothing, I tell you! NOTHING!

Nah, you’re right. I’m just… I suppose tired is all.

"The one after the big invasion."

"Again, you're not narrowing it down. Shapeshifting alien invasion? Slime dragon invasion? Plant alien invasion? Frost giant invasion? That time a Norse God inflicted terror on everyone in the world? The giant alien gods? The planet eating guy who set the sky on fire?"

"Huh. You know, I'm starting to think the reason we nameless civilians are such jerks is because we live in a constant state of existential terror."

Remember when Spurrier established a character who was incredibly sympathetic in his fear of mutants because he'd been dismembered and/or wounded as collateral damage in their various fights? ...Annnnd then it also turned out he was also the Red Skull?

I feel like Gail Simone and Jed MacKay can always be counted on to write interesting takes (even when they don't appeal to my specific tastes), so those titles are in good hands. As for Eve Ewing... well, at least only one character I like is on her book, and that one's already had her character assassinated by the prior creative team.

I can't rightly say what I want from X-Men comics at the moment. I was never a fan of "now the X-Men are all billionaires living in paradise, but watch out, it's a sex cult!" And I can understand how going back to them foiling bank robberies to get humans to like them is off-putting; I don't like Spider-Man continuously being regressed to a twenty-something man-child either.

But I'm just not too interested in this wacko power-scaling "Storm is Super Duper Ultra Mega mutant, but she has to worry about the Mega Super Duper Ultra Mega Robot that eats galaxies, and then they'll team up because they're both being threatened by a LeTigra Mega Super Duper Ultra Mega Timeline Fucker that ate eternity and now wants to eat eternity again!"

Like, what are we even talking about now? And how are the X-Men possibly still having trouble with some trucker that listens to AM radio? I can't relate to any of this.

I almost want to recuse myself--like, please don't try to appeal to me, I don't know if it can be done. Would it be heresy to say I just want a reboot to none of the characters having committed any atrocities (except for the bad guys, and they they should stay bad guys) and none of the characters being into group sex and maybe even characters stay dead when they're killed?

"Sorry, Jubilee, but with Krakoa gone, we just can't afford long pants anymore. For you, I mean. Not the rest of us. Just you."

Like, even on that particular team, if you're going to put a character in hotpants, Gambit and Nightcrawler are RIGHT THERE. Or better yet, put 'em all in hotpants, except Rogue of course, and have Wolverine constantly grumbling about how they're always riding up, and Gambit being unbearably smug about of course he waxes, don't you, mes amis?

Krakoa really feels like a longer, slightly better written Civil War to me, ultimately, good concept, but they clearly never had any idea what they were doing with it, or what they were trying to say.

Krakoa was for sure a flawed idea, but even as someone who was happy to point out its flaws I'd have preferred some sort of interim idea rather than full tabula rasa. (Especially under a writer as clumsy as Duggan.)

They never even got to establish a democracy.
