Mordo was naught but a pawn of Dormammu in a confusing plot to have the Dark One be reborn in wartime London.

Fury and the Howling Commandos were sent to smash some collaborators and stumbled upon all the magical shenanigans.

Dormammu reduced Mordo to a blob of magical energy and now he is possessing Morganna Blessing. Dormammu possessed the old man, who is Mordo’s grandfather. Fury’s lady-friend is Morganna’s past self. Or something.
