Forever War: GI Joe 146
May. 23rd, 2024 05:34 amHey! HEY! No Ninja Force in this issue! I think we're gonna be alright. We're gonna be okay.

Up in orbit, it seems like Star Brigade is going to fight the Oktober Guard, but really their two shuttles are just docking.

Destro uses his knowledge of the Silent Castle's controls to deny Billy and Baroness any hiding place.

So it looks like we're in for another "Joes vs. horde of self-replicating robots" story, about ten issues after the big BAT fight on Cobra Island. (Also, why can't they just call in the Transformers for this?)

This is kinda the catch-22 of the brainwashed good guy plot. It gives the villain a W to successfully flip a hero, but now his efficiency stems from having a good guy working for him, not from him being a power player in his own right.

I mean, it's not too out of character for Cobra Commander, but wasn't he an ally/client of Cobra's? Commander's MO generally seems to be installing puppet rulers or co-opting legitimate governments, so I'm not sure why he'd take Darklon out besides once again showing the audience how ruthless he is.

I gotta think these robots are self-replicating, because the Russian space program getting that much tonnage to an asteroid in the 90s is pretty unbelievable.

Crazy to think that it's taken this comic almost 150 issues before they brought out the powered armor.

Date: 2024-05-24 04:31 am (UTC)Destro looks like Brian Thompson, the big muscular actor in things like X-Files and the critically acclaimed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Billy looks like a muppet.
