Star Wars Tales #19

Two tales requested from this particular issue of Star Wars Tales, "The Lost Lightsaber" and "Into the Great Unknown".

The first is a rather short one entitled "The Lost Lightsaber" is by Andrew Robinson and Jim Royal with pencils by Nuria Peris. This I believe wasn't ever posted in the original Scans Daily.

It's about Anakin's lightsaber and it's owners after Luke loses the weapon. First some Bespin worker finds it, then Bossuk, before it come's into the hands of one Boba Fett, and then finally some Jawas. Honestly, this has to be out of cannon cause didn't Vader present his saber and Luke's hand to the Emperor? And even more said hand and weapon where used by the evil Luke clone in the Zahn trilogy?

Anyway the final two pages cause that's about as third (the story is eight) as I can get given how short the story is:




The second tale is "Into the Great Unknown" written by Haden Blackman with art from Sean Murphy. The story is MOST CERTAINLY an out of cannon story (nine so four from it). Also I do remember this story from Scans Daily. Why I have the issue. Took me by surprise that the two requests where from the EXACT same issue. It starts with Han and Chewie getting into some Imperial trouble. They get out of it of course however during the chaos of making the random lightspeed jump:



Yep.. they're in our solar system and they crash land they're ship on the Earth. Trouble just gets worse for Han and Chewie after innocently looking for help they run into some natives who attack them. Chewie easily fends off his attackers. Han isn't so lucky. He gets several arrows in his shoulder and his chest. Chewie take's him back to the Falcon where Han dies in his pilot seat. Cue this:

Kinda 'meh' on the first story, but I've always loved the second, just for how deftly it sets up the actor-crossover.

I squeed at the last story. :) I think Harrison Ford was my first crush before I even knew what a crush /was/...pretty cool idea, even if it isn't in canon. I also like how the coloring and facial hair of Han and Indiana aren't the same, good that the artist has paid attention to that. But one last question...

so that makes Chewy Big Foot? XD

126* years ain't that long (long a time) ago.

*(+40 years or so since A New Hope came out, I guess. So, around 168 years, since Shorty's existence signifies it's probably around the time of Temple of Doom, which wiki says takes place in 1935.)

Actually, no. This story references Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, which took place in 1939. So it's gotta be after that. ;p

Also, Short Round looks decidedly older than he did in Temple of Doom (which took place in 1935) so it's gotta be after 1939. I don't know what happened to Short Round after Temple of Doom, and I haven't seen the fourth movie, so... this isn't canon anyway. ;p

I actually read a fanfic about that. Basically the Empire has taken over the Milky Way Galaxy circa 1939 CE, and co-opted the Axis leaders as Moffs in charge of Earth. Han is still a smuggler with a bounty on his head, and poor Indy keeps getting mistaken for Han and has to fend off bounty hunters while doing his adventuring archeologist thing.

BEN'S HAIR IS RED, I TELL YOU!

...oh boy, it annoys me to no end that the insist on making him a golden-blond/carbon copy of Luke in appearance, even when the books flat-out state that a) he has flame-red/red-gold/whatever Mara's hair color is, and b) he's supposed to look like his mother, only with blue eyes.

The best we've got is this image (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:BenSkywalker_Atlas.jpg) from The Essential Atlas, but that's strawberry-blond, not red >:(

Not much good fan-art out there either, which is a shame because he's by far my favorite SW character.
