This universe is supposed to be DC's version of an Ultimate Universe.








Snyder confirmed that the Absolute versions are scrappier underdogs who lack a lot of the comforts the mainline versions have. Also revealed that this Earth is founded on “Darkseid Energy” the way that Earth 0 is found on “Superman Energy” as explained in Doomsday Clock with the Metaverse.



Absolute superman #1

Writer jason aaron and artist rafa sandoval join forces to present a new man of steel with the launch of absolute superman #1. This superman has no family, no fortress of solitude, and no home. Will he still stand for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow in this new universe?

But ultimately, it tells a story about how Darkseid, our greatest villain, becomes that figure that says “it's time for superheroes to end. I'm going to become the new thing, the thing that they have not seen coming but has been prophesied as their end. And I will transform myself or I will make myself into this thing that can finally put these stories to rest. I am Omega. I am the end of all things.”

What All In also does is it gives us a new universe, a universe where we can do the kinds of things that we tried to do with the New 52 where we can reinvent the characters in really daring ways that are personal to us. And above all, what it gives us is a guiding story. It gives us a story that will shape the DCU for the next few years in different ways. But it's about this big battle where superheroes have to embrace all aspects of their universe, the bold and the new, and the kind of legacy storytelling that's been going on for almost a century in the best way, all of it to come together to defeat this threat. So we're really excited. What All In is really is a rallying cry. It's saying superhero comics are fucking awesome. They've been awesome. They are awesome. They will be awesome. And it's a celebration and expansion of DC at this moment to incorporate all the kinds of amazing superhero storytelling facets that go with superhero comics. So it means you will go to DC Comics in October and you can pick from the Absolute Universe to get brand new number ones, new takes on Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman (and more to come)

Long-time fan favorite characters Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Jade, Obsidian, Jesse Quick, Hourman, Ted Grant, and Sandman are all back on the roster as DC's first super team faces their greatest and most personal challenge yet. Will golden age ideals hold true in a world recovering from the events of Absolute Power? Or do they need a more hardcore approach to stand a chance against the new Injustice Society of America?

This Superman can't afford regular trips to the barber, I guess. Well, at least it ain't the mullet. :/

I'm even less sold on Batman's costume design -- Bruce is a human being, not a giant mech -- but I'm intrigued by the "grizzled, old guard" Alfred who looks as ready as his boss to muck in and fight on the street. For some reason I'm reminded of the simlarly grizzled but still badass and defiant Green Arrow of TDKR.

And I really like Wonder Woman's design. Dig that demonic winged horse! Invisible jet? Super-flight powers? Never heard of 'em!

As for the overall scenario, I agree with the comment someone made, to the last news post on Absolute Universe, that Darkseid as Big Bad is played out. But having the big three heroes come from less advantageous backgrounds is a fresh idea. (More so for Bruce and Diana, admittedly, than for Clark, who grew up on a farm -- far from poor, yes, but certainly neither wealthy nor aristocratic.) If nothing else, it should discourage edgey fans from applying the tired (and false) "rich guy who beats up poor crooks" meme to this version of Batman.

Don't want my first thoughts to be negative or anything, but DC do make it very hard sometimes...

Um. Can't fault Snyder's enthusiasm, at least.
(Maybe having a whole separate universe for the dark-n-edgy hot takes will allow the regular universe to be less dark-n-edgy... but I have doubts.)


"Why are the Teen Titans stuck reliving their trauma?" asks the solicits, as if the Teen Titans being stuck in an endless loop of trauma wasn't their default state.

Because if they're talking about morality, then those could get pretty flexible back then...

I'm very excited :) Everything I've read and heard says this isn't grim and gritty, it's taking the core of the characters into a fresh, start-from-scratch setting. Superman's back to the champion of the oppressed, fighting corrupt businessmen and officials. This is just an educated guess, but I think Kal El arrived as a child or teen, who knew his Kryptonian culture- leaning into his immigrant metaphor.

Snyder on Batman was disheartening at first (not that I didn't love his run) but I like what I've heard. Batman's a unit because he doesn't need a disguise, no one's looking at Bruce Wayne so he can be as strong as he needs to be, and since he can afford all the gadgets he'll need that muscle. I found the hooks confusing until someone mentioned they're like actual batwings and will hook onto walls.

I'm liking the design on Wonder Woman, I miss the lasso but I imagine it'll be a big deal when she she finds it. The magic side of WW has always felt underdeveloped so that scratches an itch for me. The long arc of the series might be Diana creating/recreating Paradise Island and the Amazons and that'd be something cool to see

The concepts behind Batman and Wonder Woman sound interesting, though it's going to take a lot for me to get past the insane body proportions on the former. Aside from those, Al Ewing? Deniz Camp? Sign me up, no questions asked.

I'm interested enough in the Absolute titles to at least give most of them a shot. We'll see how the first few issues do, anyway, and if these stories will be interesting and, more importantly, new and not some rehash.

I'm... iffy about Lemire on JSA. I love JSA but I find him to be kinda not my taste as a writer.

It's actually a shame this pitch for Diana had to be released under the "Absolute" banner, because they end up missing a trick not calling her "Under Woman".

Another thought: does the name of this universe signal an end to DC's "Absolute Editions" of its most acclaimed stories (Absolute Watchmen, Absolute Sandman etc.)? Because if not I could see more than a little confusion ahead, from a marketing perspective.

Bloody heck, “Absolute” is correct because Absolute Batman is an absolute unit. Every time I look away he gets bigger and bigger.

I’m really looking forward to Absolute Wonder Woman. I’m a big fan of Kelly Thompson, the premise sounds pretty neat and I really dig Wonder Woman’s design.

to many modern storytellers make scrappy underdogs into people who can never get ahead. Unless these books have a set end date the desire to make them maintain that spirit will have them fail to often I think
