Members of the Avengers and Force Works gather to celebrate the anniversary of the Avengers’ formation.

Celebrations are cut short when a wizened figure falls through a portal.

1) Unfortunate costumes for so many, including Hawkeye and Hercules.
2) The wasteful and unfortunate killings of Rita and the nanny. What even was the point of returning Rita to the present just to murder her?
3) the character assassination of Tony Stark starts here.
4) the long-term ramifications of this event are such that Onslaught/Heroes Reborn will be a mercy killing.

This is only notable for how Kurt Busiek retconned the holy hell out of it in Avengers Forever.

The Crossing reminds me of that joke from How I Met Your Mother "The 80's didn't come to Canada until 1993", like I feel that by 1995/96 Marvel was moving on from most of the worst excesses of the 90's, but the Avengers really didn't shake it off until '98.

It's also funny that a year before, they were convinced Iron Man could be the the center of an X-Men-sized fiefdom. It did eventually come about in a manner of speaking, but they really just nuked the Force Works silo after a year.

As someone who was out of comics for a long time before and after this, my only knowledge of this event is the horror-struck comments I've read on this site. I'm perversely looking forward to learning what this train wreck will be. So far it's off to a flying start.

So many thoughts... so few of them good. Most of them are some variation of "argh" or "ugh".

Poor Rita, demonstrating the bad luck that happens to anyone who so much as touches a Pym Particle.
(Was gonna say "well, Jan's not had it so bad" because I blocked out the "turned into a wasp-woman" thing that happens in this very story.)

The Harras-vengers tries so very hard to be epic and important and it fails so spectacularly.
