Fantastic Four #343
Aug. 28th, 2024 07:56 amI have skipped the previous issue, a fill-in where the Human Torch teams-up with Rusty Collins.
Any way, the Fantastic Four come to the conclusion that something isn’t right with the Earth they ended up on last time.

The sports stuff probably makes more sense if you know American sports. I do not.

This Earth's Alicia explains just what the trouble is.

Date: 2024-08-28 09:57 am (UTC)For one thing, the Phoenix Pistols seem never to have been an extant sports team in our world (or presumably in 616.)
No sports team called the Washington Senators(1) has existed since 1971. A football team bore that name from 1921-22, and there were four Washington Senators baseball teams from 1891-99, 1912, 1901-1960 (who relocated to become the current Minnesota Twins), and 1961-71 (who relocated to become the current Texas Rangers.)
Félix Fermín is a real person who was then playing shortstop for the Cleveland Indians (now the Cleveland Guardians), but Roger Maris’ 61-single-season home-run record, accomplished in 1961, would stand until 1998, when Mark McGwire reached 70. I’ll leave further U.S. sports trivia to more knowledgeable people.
(1) Not to be confused with the Washington Generals, the basketball team whose job is serving as straight men to the Harlem Globetrotters.
