Jess accumulated a real bunch of weirdos in her series. Apparently the West Coast was where all the really bonkers villains went.

Oh yeah. By the time this series wraps up, we've gotten a whole passel of oddballs and goobers, and I love it.
Fun fact: I kinda came into reading the Avengers around the time that they did the epilogue storyline which picked up on #50's ending, so I had NO idea who these villains were, but I was intrigued. Daddy Longlegs for example...

Adam Warren has said that Empowered pretty much started off as a response to this issue, right down to the bodysuit design.

Looking at the way Jessica's hogtied, I can believe it.

Though I hasten to add, this specific scrnarip was skewered far, far later in the series, with Emp defeating "Le Chevalier Blanc" - a character who insists that he's hogtying and then cryogenically freezing her for her OWN GOOD, honest!

The art does not do a good job of selling Jess's reaction as she's tied up by Hangman.
She's repeatedly exclaiming "who are you?" but her expression is more along the lines of utterly bored.
"I'm what? Ugh. Fine. Whatever."

The villains in this series were always genuinely creepy. Spider-Woman wasn't a superhero so much as she was fighting for her life.

Heh! That's an awfully quick transition of just being lassoed to being much more elaborately tied up. Feels like Jess is being positioned here to try and steal Wonder Woman's longstanding Queen of the superheroine bondage title!

Ah...these old issues probably corrupted many a young mind.. ;)
