Silver Surfer #41-43
Nov. 7th, 2024 04:48 pmAfter viewing iamrman's post on Silver Surfer #40, https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/10955732.html I was curious to read on how the Silver Surfer was able to pay his exit tax from the last issue. Turns out, Silver Surfer issue 40 to 43 is the "Dynamo City" storyline where as long as he's stuck in Dynamo City, he can't use his powers. In issue 41, he tries to get a job to earn money for his exit tax, but without the power cosmic it doesn't go very well.

After getting fired, he is told to go to tent city (aka slums for the homeless), there he meets a alien named Zeaklar Belgewater, who tells him try his luck with the Sensory Stimulation Network. He agrees to sell his memories to them for a fee of 200 credits, but they only charge him 2 credits. When the Silver Surfer loses his cool, the guards subdue him and toss him on the street leading to an interesting cameo.

In issue 42, Determined to find a way out, the Silver Surfer decides to find the Great I, who runs Dynamo City, and appeal to him for help.

He finds the Great I, but is shocked to find a nonresponsive entity who is unable to offer the Surfer any kind of assistance. The robots guards subdue the Silver Surfer and arrest him for his invasion of the Great I. Since this is his fourth offense, he is dragged off to be terminated.

In Issue 43, The Silver Surfer has been detained for his fourth offense in Dynamo City and has been put on trial. He tries to defend himself in front of the robot judge and jury, but his defense attorney has been deactivated. (That's Dynamo's Criminal Justice System for ya!)

Of course, they find him and Zeaklar guilty and they are sentenced to termination. However, termination means being teleported into outer space. Once Silver Surfer is jettisoned into space, he regains his Power Cosmic. And after everything the Silver Surfer has gone through since he trapped in Dynamo City, he was able to pay back the robots guards who have given him the most grief. These last two panels are just cathartic.
