On the one hand, a character being unceremoniously killed entirely off-screen is irritating. On the other, it's post-Brubaker Zemo, so in this case, after everything that's been done with and to him since 2011, dying like a chump is pretty fitting. And a mercy killing.
(Meanwhile, it's not like Skull or Hydra are going to stay gone for any length of time anyway.)
While Doom riding a T-rex is kind of cool, it also raises questions. (like, is Doom Rex sentient? If he is, how'd they agree on Doom riding him?)
I think Red Skull has died at least four times already. I think Zemo has died three times. And that's assuming Zemo actually was killed here in the first place.
Counting instances where characters have stood around saying that this time he's definitely gone for good this time, Red Skull's had at least four goes, yeah.
During DeMatteis' Cap. Captain America Reborn. That time in Uncanny Avengers when Magneto smashed his head in with a chunk of masonry. Just before Secret Empire when Evil Steve arranged his death.
If we count instances where Zemo has fallen to his apparent death, there's at least six times for him.
If this leads to the return of Fab's Zemo coming back through time and then slapping everyone for thinking that this pretender was him all will be forgiven.
My not-entirely-serious headcanon is shortly after Born Better, his loony relative knocked him out and stashed him in a cupboard somewhere, and has been pretending to be Zemo all this time.
I mean seriously, he may be an egomaniacal totalitarian but you know what? At least he wants what's best for his people. So what if he doesn't tolerate dissention? Doom oppresses everyone equally and is honest about it.
I like how the heroes are convinced the world leaders are "under a spell" to help Doom and then realize nope, this is just him being smart to play them all.
"Of course I killed Zemo, he took over the world once. And then Counter Earth. He regularly humiliates the Avengers. I don't need that kind of competition."
Have there been superheroes in the Marvel Universe for decades plural? I thought we were like ten years distant from the FF being formed. Maybe a little more. And I seem to recall some attempt to have a 'lost generation' of superheroes in the ever-growing gap between WW2 and the Modern Age (most famously fifties Captain America), but who even knows if that's still in continuity?
Anyway, I'm surprised they're not calling this Secret Empire 2: Now With Doctor Doom.
If this had come out a few months ago, I’d be having a different reaction, but at this point with the -waves hands- everything, Doom would be a step up.

Under his heel
Party for Doom
But Doom don't care about me
I should have realised
He'll do as he please
