Did Clowes and I read the same Peanuts? Yes, Charlie Brown is a bountiful font of angst, but I never saw him sneering at his presumed inferiors, nor assuming that he was entitled to the Little Red-Haired Girl’s attentions, nor pulling malicious pranks.

He was like that at times in the original comics.

Valid point, although those were bits of Early Installment Weirdness before his characterization really settled. (Which could arguably be read on a Watsonian level as character development.)

also, many of his "friends" are quite willing to insult him to his face or take advantage of him to ridiculous degrees and expecting him to just take it
