This is probably a moment that Cable prefers to forget.

Thankfully, the good guys manage to pull themselves out of the wreckage. Nick Fury is also on hand to pick them up.

Was there ever any reason given why Cable was such a dick to Wolverine? Granted, Cable was pretty much a dick to everyone, but this implied some specific issue.

Yeah. They did. There built up the idea that Cable and Wolverine had some long running feud and didn't show us what it was until a one shot in 1999.

It happened shortly after Cable came back to the past and Wolverine was still running around in his original costume. A bad guy from the future killed a guy that Cable had befriended. Wolverine was there. Cable and Wolverine kill the bad guy and as they're wrapping things up, Cable is a bit rude to Wolverine.

Wolverine tells him to check his attitude, and Cable says he's in a lot of pain right now and threatens to take it out on Wolverine. Wolverine blows him off with a "Yeah sure. Maybe next time we meet we won't be on the same side and you can try," and Cable follows it up with a "You can count on it."

That's it. That's the whole backstory. They were rude to each other and decided next time they met they'd fight.

So... why did Elsie have to sacrifice herself to stop the machine again? I forget what it even does, or if it was said here.
