I love that early Defenders were just Steve, Namor, sometimes Norrin, and occasionally Bruce* standing there thinking "Oh god, I'm the only normal one here".

*Hulk was just happy to be included ... except when he wanted to be left alone.

That reminds me of a hilarious comment I saw someone make about watching Tiger King, that their reaction to the introduction of the South American drug kingpin who smuggled his product inside snakes was "finally, a normal person!"

Early Defenders are such weird fun. It’s a logical step, put their biggest characters who aren’t already on a team (and who also aren’t Daredevil) together.

Though at times, you can see the writers really struggling to figure out why they’re working together. Adding characters like Val, Kyle, and Patsy as the glue really helped.
