...okay, this is not a great ending. Or a remotely good one. A few words is enough to change the heart of Cyttorak? The god-like being that feeds upon pain, selfishness, and strife? I don't see it happening. When Marko tried to be selfless, Cyttorak was disgusted and started giving Cain less and less power. Makes no sense.

And Doom taught him nothing. Stupid Book of Vishanti.

Spider-man does have history of this sort of thing. He once talked Death into sending him back to life after he died.

Death might be inclined to view those that adhere to duty and responsibility favourably. Cyttorak only respects power. So, kinda different priorities.

Yeah, but Death has shown to be occasionally sympathetic to the living. Not often, but it's happened. Hell, she attended Rick Jones's wedding and even gave him a comb for all his brushes with death.

Not the case with Big Red here.

It wasn't just Spider-Man, he was already lost some of his kids and was feeling confusion and grief for the first time.

Hey we are still in the character shilling phase of the crossover when it's meant to imply Doom might be right before everything falls apart.

So of course he has to get the credit.

from the scans here it looks like Pete was the one who actually convinced Big Red, not Doom, are there missing pages that show that Doom was the one who changed Big Red's mind?

No but there are pages where Strange also credits Doom with knowing this would happen or at least suspecting it enough to voice that suspicion.

That's not it - the " Book of Vishanti " bit's a bookend to the arc's starting with Sorcerer Supreme Doom thrusting the responsibility for all this on Spider-Man.

Doom, in this Spider-Man story, is a guy who defers responsibility to someone else and gets the credit for that responsibility being fulfilled anyway. That isn't conducive to " Doom's kind of right " - that's conducive to " Doom's a shit ".

But when even Strange is voice the idea that Doom knew this would happen that to me at least comes off as pushing the Doom was right angle.

Doom was right in the same way that the guy that called the plumber can claim to be one that fixed the leaky tap.

He just talks a lot, so it's easy to forget.
