scans_dailyIssue #123's ending had had the Flyboiz of Blüdhaven asking Nightwing for help.
Issue #124's beginning was Oracle expositing what that help would involve - medical attention for those Flyboiz who'd been poisoned by significant exposure to " Chemo-infected corpses " - and Nightwing summing up with " They need blood transfusions. "
This did not sit well with the Teddies, the other Blüdhaven gang Nightwing was helping.
Nightwing (a " universal donor ", appropriate for this story) chose to give blood himself.
He asked Crystal of the Flyboiz to set the transfusion up.
The transfusion happened - the Zanni, that moving spirit of the Cirque du Sin Robin and Batman'd dealt with in Gotham, indulged his interest in Dick Grayson again.
" .. this is one of those times in which he is sure to see me. " the Zanni remarked to the fourth wall.
" And yet, the show goes on. "
Nightwing's heart restarted from the Zanni's push - and the " mazzive zzhot of adrenaline " Crystal'd given him.
She told him that for the blood he'd given " Two of [the three] didn't make it.. one of them did.
" You zzaved hzz life. "
The Flyboiz and the Teddies threatened each other.
Bryce, the young Teddie who'd joined the gang just to survive in Blüdhaven, pushed back against Keenan the Teddie's perpetuation of conflict for the conflict's sake.
That defused the situation to Nightwing's approval.
Later, Oracle told a recovering Nightwing " I've been tapping secure lines..
" .. and your sister has done something that's going to upset you very much. "
" You don't know that. "
Dick set out on his motorcycle, reassuring Barbara " Everything's going to be fine. "
Blüdhaven's mayor Melinda Grayson-Lin and Spheric Solutions' CEO Olivia Pearce watched the Wanderers flush out the Teddies and Flyboiz not with Nightwing.
" I was only a little girl when I ran away. "
" [The Cirque] made me something better. Something stronger. "
As Olivia showed her face to Melinda, Nightwing came up on those Teddies being menaced by that Wanderer.
He went to save them - and then the " circus " perception the Zanni was whispering dazed his post-blood-transfusion self, stumbled him:
(Spheric Solutions' " mechs controlled by animal brains " map to tame circus animals - another fun bit in Olivia's " sci-fi weapons manufacturer over-arming the police " aspect being a mask for her " loyal servant of a ' chaos for performance's sake ' circus " one.)
The Wanderer's weapons hummed -
- and quieted.
As Nightwing toppled the mech, the mech's maker exposited to her transfixed (" Yuh-your face.. ") audience.
" The Cirque is going to save the children. "
(Olivia believes that the Cirque du Sin will save the children by transforming them as she was transformed.)
(The Zanni and Olivia (Colombina)'s plan is to manipulate Blüdhaven and Nightwing so that they have a circus of youths receptive to the Cirque's philosophy, led by the guy they've earmarked.
