Not really atheistic, he just can't imagine anything greater than himself. He doesn't believe in existence of ROUS either.

I really like that Superman actions result in union/eons change of heart. And help them remember the tragedy of individual death and promise to only unified people who are near death and voluntarily. That is peak superman writing imo. Which he solves the situation via his care for all beings.

Even though Superman at his utterly lowest point in his life at the moment. He still inspires an enemy to become an ally.
