Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #2

On the surface, Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion is a story about Miles Morales returning to a very different Ultimate Universe to rescue his sister. Looking at how the story plays out, it's a promotional showcase for the various Ultimate comic titles, with Miles visiting each one in turn in the hopes of getting a reader to try out a new title. See how cool Spider-Man is in issue 1, check out Wakanda in issue 2, look at these funky X-Men is issue 3...

What's most interesting to me though, is that issue 2 is where we get a little more insight into what's up with 6160 Hank Pym. We get Killmonger saying:




and we also get Hank monologuing over "What do we do for the people we love?"

How does that mask work? Killmonger's eyes are at the level of the mask's forehead. He must walk into lots of walls.

Incursion being a showcase would explain one or two things about its depiction of Wakanda and Black Panther here.
Just that there's a big disparity between what's going on there and what's shown here, and it's weird.
Not even a brief throwaway line.

And I'm sure there's nothing ominous about the fact Okoye is entirely absent and unmentioned.


The solicits did say we'd get the mysterious past of Wasp in this issue.
Can't say that's not a mysterious past, all right.

Didn’t know Miles had another mediocre new costume again. Seems like they’re always trying some gimmick with him. (Maybe it doesn’t count as a new outfit but even the graffiti/hoodie look from the Spider-Verse films would be better if they want to try something different.)

Seems like a side-effect of Bendis' original run - he defined Miles and family, but not much else, so there's enough room to just keep trying things.

(Which is fair - if nothing else, Miles could always use antagonists that aren't his uncle Aaron.)

Maybe, as per Spider-tradition, one of those could be his old costume? Perhaps the alien... looking one.

In terms of design, it's better than that ridiculous hoodie thing he had during the Ahmed run.

It's the part where it's apparently made of vibranium that's odd.
Doesn't exactly seem in keeping with the general idea of Spidey being a street-level hero.
(But then again, neither does fighting vampires or gods or cross-universe shenanigans...)

I mean, Miles also had invisibility and electricity powers. Peter is pushing it as a street level guy; I'm only half-joking when I say he's only street level because he's poor so he's around a lot when petty crimes happen. Miles is a stretch to say the least

Yeah I mean sometimes Peter is a street level guy but then he also just spent a bunch of months magically fighting Gods while empowered by Doom and in his own title I think Miles is in the middle of a war of Gods right now
