It's kind of weird how they treat Grodd as just a strong guy, and never refer to his mental powers.

This series is so fun. I really enjoy the interactions, the focus of super villain team book is an amazing neat idea.

I’ve always found Funky’s original appearance is Kirby’s Mister Miracle a bit too mean spirited for my tastes (whether that’s deserved or not is a topic I’m not nearly informed enough to entertain), but enjoy him much more under other writers, like here.

So, which comics professionals are the models for Funky's henchmen this time? I suppose Houseroy wasn't available ...

I doubt they're meant to be anybody in particular. One of them isn't even named, and the other one, Toad, doesn't have a name that maps easily to any pros working at Marvel at the time. (It's way too early to be "Toad McFarlane.")

Later renditions of Funky would make him into a solo operator and dispense with the creepy, abused manservants altogether.
