Mod Post: Off-Topic Tuesday
Aug. 12th, 2025 09:22 amIn the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.
Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.
The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.
Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.
It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.
The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.
In the UK, new, repressive rues intended to "protect the children from porn", have ended up with Spotify requiring facial recognition to ensure that children aren't listening to adult lyrics. A cycnical soul would suggest this is going to end up with a sharp spike in VPN usage and/or pirating having a second heyday.
It's getting hard and harder to ignore the increasingly desperate attempts by the US administation to deflect from the ongoing Espstein scandal and possibly from the upcoming diplomatic car-crash which will be the (likely) US/Russia-only discussions about the invasion of Ukraine, which are taking place later this week.
The chosen distraction this time is the mobilisation of the National Guard in Washington allegedly to combat rising crime (Which has actually been falling for several years)
Speaking of hostile infestations (too subtle a swgue?), Alien: Earth lands this week.
And speaking of macabre scenes... okay, I'll stop now, the first part of "Wednesday" season 2 arrived on Netflix
To end on a happier note, shooting for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has started in Glasgow, and Tom Holland has been being utterly delightful with a small fan who showed up to watch. Media stunt? I don't care, a small child met their hero, and that's always going to melt this shrivelled walnut of a heart.

Date: 2025-08-12 08:49 am (UTC)From DC: whole Absolute line, Batgirl, Krypto, Poison Ivy, Secret Six and Trinity. I adored the most recent Absolute Batman, it has so strong eroguro vibes, DC keeps serving fantastic kinks despite being completely against vanilla sex. I disliked Trinity when she first debuted, but I really enjoy her in comedic story I think I just have to get used to new characters, like I grew to like Yara Flor (who is now my favourite Wonder Woman supporting character) and Jace Fox. I greatly enjoy the fact that Krypto’s story is set during the Great Depression era, a historical piece was something I was not expecting from it! The story is also relatively realistic in depicting the main character as a dog with all that I entails rather than a human character in dog form. Furthermore, I enjoyed evil preteen Lex Luthor. I GREATLY recommend the series. There were some serious and shocking plot twists in Batgirl, Poison Ivy and Secret Six (Pnff univat n oebgure jvgu n urnygul eryngvbafuvc jvgu Fuvin, Cnzryn sbepvoyl erirefvat Oryyn’f cbjref bire n eryngviryl crggl svtug, Wnl xvyyvat frireny crbcyr, oernxvat hc jvgu Wba naq nccneragyl tbvat shyy ivyynva) that deserve to have a discussion. As for upcoming comics I have high hopes for The Immortal Legend of Batman and Justice League Red. Tornado, my guy, long time no see, how is Young – at that’s how I learned that Peter David died. RIP to a legend, as controversial as a figure he was, he was one of the greatest writers in 90s and 00s mainstream comics.
From Marvel: Doom’s Division, New Champions, Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, Ultimate X-Men, Uncanny X-Men. I don’t have much to say here, I’m in for the characters, not for the story, and each title has some great character moments. I’m feeling sad that Tiger Division’s adventures have already ended while Ultimate X-Men and New Champions will be ending soon. And then I will end up without comics to read, thuough I will always follow everything with Kamala Khan in it and intend on following the fiasco that is the most recent Gwenpool series and the many specials and minis with Jeff the Land Shark.
Turns out my personal computer only has the space to have six games installed (out of 26 purchased, I also took several games that were free in the shop). My father allowed me to use his old work computer for keeping the other games, he no longer usues it and it has a clean disc. However, because it hasn’t been used in almost a year the battery died and cannot be resuscitated, which lead to more expenses and longer time before I could play the games. That said, I won’t have time to do it at all until at least mid-September when my holidays start. I have some anime luggage, but when I’m up to date again I would want to read the stories one by one, hopefully on chronological order unless I encounter something too squicky even for me. Tokap’is ending was great, and the next episodes of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun and The Summer Hikaru Died will be so emotional~~!
I scared myself half to death on Monday (is it Monday still?) when I though that Sebastian escaped and some feral kitten took his place. It was a misunderstanding and we are all sleeping together now – or at least it seemed like this, Sebatian and Mattie have already gone their ways and only Timothy is sleeping. I keep bleading again and the pains returned, but at least they are much weaker than before the surgery. And, to end on a positive note, I ordered a lot of fruit I will be eating for the whole weeek and the will arrive on Tuesday~~!

Date: 2025-08-12 10:14 am (UTC)Hey look after his iconic role as Babu Frik Matt Smith is returning to Star Wars to play the villain in the Sequel Trilogy Followup Movie Which Is Not The Rey Movie!
oh look their going to make a film series adapting The Accursed Kings books. It's going to be the most expensive French movie ever made and to try and make it more profitable everyone is going to be talking in English.

Date: 2025-08-12 10:38 am (UTC)I don't think we ever found out what role he was supposed to play in Ride of Skywalker, did we?
Along with his "This will play out BIG in the inevitable sequel Matt, we PROMISE!" role he had in Terminator Genisys he was not having much luck with genre roles at the time.
Then again in zombie pandemic flick "Patient Zero", he is the medic who has to deliver the line "We call them... the Infected" like it's an ominous thing when even I, only half paying attention to the TV, was thinking "Yes, of course you did, that's literally what they are, it's a pandemic"

Date: 2025-08-12 11:11 am (UTC)Work continues to be work, trying to enjoy this relatively slack time, but they've had a lot of people off the phones so not much actual slack.
Marvel Puzzlequest is still on Fantastic Four month, previous chase character was Frankie Raye, the Nova, and this week we have The Maker. There's been some severe glitches in the play lately, so I think the company might be doing poorly.
Over at my blog, I look at a John Wayne movie with a considerable amount of politics in it: https://www.skjam.com/2025/08/09/movie-review-mclintock/

Date: 2025-08-12 11:39 am (UTC)Or the hole they dug has collapsed because the soil's so damn dry. It's unclear.
But a lot of nearby vegetation looks like something's trampled it, and the tom that keeps wandering in isn't that big.
(It's a really deep hole, too. And I think they've dug their way through the roots of the nearby roses. Stupid little adorable bastards...)
The most fun part of all the news updates and set photos of Spider-Man is just trying to figure out which bit of Glasgow it is.
(obvs the city center. But which street?)
Still unclear if Marvel are just ending all the New Ultimate line completely or it's a relaunch.
Ending it seems like a bizarre choice, given to the best of my understanding most of them were doing well and are quite popular.
But cancelling a whole line of titles when, or even precisely because, they are doing well is exactly a thing a comic company would do.
I am really going to miss The Ultimates. Not often I feel so much anticipation for a title.
So, because there's a revised version of PR on the Netflix (which looks an awful lot like it's just the original just... done up slightly, if that?) there's also new versions of the Zords out.
Kind of nice to have versions of them that don't cost a hundred quid a pop.
But somehow I get this feeling that it'll just be the Mighty Morphin' ones.
(not the Ninjazords, goodness me no, that'd just be nuts.
... *sigh*)

Date: 2025-08-12 01:22 pm (UTC)They might eventually re-cycle through later series I guess, but honestly, everything defaults to MMPR for marketing purposes, which is a shame.

Date: 2025-08-12 06:45 pm (UTC)And someone in the editorial probably just noticed Peter and MJ are happily married within the Ultimate line. So of course it has to go. Especially since their marriage was positively received.

Date: 2025-08-13 03:15 pm (UTC)A universe where Peter and MJ are happily married with kids, AND Matt Murdock's life isn't an endless dumpster fire of misery.
That obviously could not stand.
... semi-seriously, do wonder if that's how Hickman managed to pitch the new run in the first place.
"You see, the Maker rewrote history, and so Peter never became Spider-Man. When the series begins, he and MJ have been happily married for years."
"Ooooh, scary stuff."
"... uh. Yes. Anyway..."

Date: 2025-08-12 11:56 am (UTC)I have also decided to post little bits of pieces that came afterwards. Like a few issues of Justice League America in which the surviving members of Justice League Detroit (well, Cindy) appear. There is also the story from Justice League Quarterly in which the Conglomeration appear and a 'lost story' from JLA Classified.
If I am missing anything else, please do ket me know.
I have just finished posting the Jack Kirby Demon series and I am interested in posting some more DC occult stuff. I was considering posting the two Spectre titles from 1987 and 1992. They're the ones that tie-in with a bunch of events.
Various titles for Doctor Fate and Swamp Thing are also on my list, so look out for those I guess.
I also decided to start posting Hawkworld again, even if for my own interest. Call me mad, but I want to see just how convoluted Hawkman's continuity gets.
