Acknowledging the tension between the two ways is fair, and you can't really do more than that because each is antithetical to the other and neither can get anything lasting done on its own.

I mean, if there wasn't any violent solution users then the non-violent ones would be just fine. It's only the former's existence that prevents them.

But that's an utopia. I do acknowledge that.

Batman: "I'm sorry, pal, but in this here reality, mercy and compassion... (he turns to the camera) don't enter into the equation."

(The two of them begin tossing omega-themed cupcakes at one another. The cupcakes are full of broken glass. The camera pans four feet to the left to find Darkseid sitting in an armchair that is, incongruously, also Darkseid. The camera irises out around his head.)

Darkseid: Ah de-, ah de-, ah de-, ah dat's anti-ALL, folks!

It's a shame too. The Absolute Universe is an interesting idea on the surface. Heroes with a vital SOMETHING taken from their lives and how they have to compensate. But then you get into this "everything is Darkseid, including your trousers and he's seeping into the normal universe, taking over past and future for some reason...not too unlike the "X Days a Sauerkraut" series plot" thing and it feels all bogged down.

It does seem interesting that the new Ultimate U. and the Absolute U. both follow this logic of "a sinister figure robbed this generation of heroes of something vital, which they struggle to get back". For the millenial-and-younger crowds, very relatable...and yet, also an oversimplification compared to the complexities of what's really been stolen from us IRL.

I don't know why there aren't MORE Batman comics where he's breaking white supremacist's bones and setting them on fire.

Yeah. This was a story fueled by rage, and I'm here for it.

The art in thid is astounding and perfectly captured the full throttle, roided up essence of Absolute Batman. The splash page where Batman screams “this is my way” with the rain dripping off Batman was one of the greatess visuals of Batman I have ever seen.
