Invasion #2 wrapped up the actual alien invasion, leaving the crossover issues to deal with the aftermath and then get a surprise ending, leading into Invasion #3.
Wonder Woman begins WW #26 feeling a much greater sense of camaraderie with the Justice League International than she would ever show again, including years later when she was leading the team. It’s hilarious, but relatable, that even though the JLI would sign her on in a heartbeat, she’s like, I know it’s arrogant to think myself worthy, but what if they might maybe someday possibly consider me? If I keep my numbers up?

Also, we get some VERY NOTABLE dialogue from Ice, not only confirming her growing interest in Guy but reversing her usual dynamic with Fire.
The League returns to the scene of the battle, Booster now joining them, to handle cleanup. Most Khund ships were all but vaporized in last issue’s attack, but one remains crashed and might represent an environmental danger. Guy tries to fly it off with a giant pincer, but Scott thinks they should’ve run a few stress tests first.

This is a tough issue to trim down. I could’ve devoted more space to the debut of this era’s Injustice League…

…or the comical aerial battle. However, there will be other stories later that showcase the IJL better. This is one of our last chances to see Guy as rendered by Kevin Maguire, and he is so gloriously obnoxious throughout that I just had to give him the spotlight.

While the JLI are trying to dispose of the leftover Khund starship, the IJL have been trying for four hours to hotwire a Thanagarian one. They consist of Major Disaster, Multi-Man, Big Sir, Cluemaster, Clock King, and MD’s prison roommate, who calls himself The Mighty Bruce. See if you can guess which one is a Giffen-DeMatteis original.

Multi-Man outlines his deal. Today we’d call him “bipolar,” or possibly just “a millennial.”

J’Onn intercepts the falling ship with Martian strength. Guy smashes through it a second time just for funsies.

Beetle and Booster note that the stressed-out J’Onn is sounding more and more like Batman, and they’re not wrong, but he does manage to have a little fun in the aftermath.

Believe it or not, the “blackout” is not Guy’s fault…it’s the aforementioned surprise ending that leads into Invasion #3. (Every Invasion DC title published that month ended with a similar blackout effect. I'm not going to collage them all, you can use your imagination.)
Monday: Turns out the entire DC Universe was a chalkboard drawing the whole time!

Date: 2025-11-21 05:45 pm (UTC)Saddled with one of the worst civilian names ever (Dufus P. Ratchett) and apparently Gorilla City’s treatment to enhance his mental capabilities failed… and then reduced to comic villain.
Multi-Man was a contender as a Challengers of the Unknown villain but he’s also had a really rough career. I don’t blame him for having mental health issues given his entire power revolves around repeatedly dying.

Date: 2025-11-21 09:03 pm (UTC)That's the good thing about being a third-rate villain, there's not as much call for you when someone needs someone offbeat.
It's kind of like every time someone actually dredges up the Prankster. He's never anyone's first choice as long as the Toyman exists...

Date: 2025-11-22 06:02 am (UTC)Guy in this issue is still a jerk, sure, but he's more of a troll -- a playful one, even -- than a raging hothead in constant mutinous mode, or a sexual harasser. He even shows some character development in his newfound admiration for Wonder Woman. An admiration, moreover, that's based -- mostly -- on her bravery and badassery, in contrast to Blue Beetle who drools over her like an old-school Archie Comics character. (Seriously, I half-expected Beetle to go "va-va-va-voom" and walk straight into a tree over her.) I hope this more entertaining and (for him) nuanced Guy became the new normal for him; guess I'll find out soon.

Date: 2025-11-23 07:15 pm (UTC)And the Injustice League (which is a better name than the Injustice Gang) is such a weird collection of villains. Like, Disaster is a GL villain, but not to Guy specifically. Multi Man is a Challengers villain. Big Sir is a Barry villain. Clock King is a Green Arrow villain. Only one with an actual nemesis on the team is Cluemaster.
Not that most of these Leaguers had great villains. They’d have to recruit the likes of Shockwave and Overthrow if they wanted to get personal.
